Mavericks - power use / service battery

My Late 2008 13 inch should last 500 cycles but since upgrading to Mavericks I have 330 cycles and a service warning message.

So, how long till Apple admits there is an issue>?

How long your battery lasts depends on how you use it, repeatedly discharging to 10% or less will damage the battery, high or low temperatures will damage the battery, runaway processes will cause high power consumption.

Have you checked your Mac for any of these issues?

Take it to an Apple Store for diagnosis.

While an Apple Store diagnosis seems inevitable, we should no longer deny that there is a clear correlation with upgrading to Mavericks and service battery warnings. And it costs us money !

I have the same problem as Mr-and-Mrs-Smith and I can assure you that my ways with my battery are nothing but gentle ..

That's your opinion, none of the Macs I upgraded to Mavericks has had any battery issues at all. I get 10 to 15% more battery life than before the upgrade.

How low do you let the charge get before recharging the battery?

Yeah, it's my opinion only but it seems that in this forum, the same opinion is widely shared, unlike yours. Of course, we wouldn't expect all upgrades to be faulty (how many have you done btw ?) and that's the point in asking Apple to investigate the problem.

As for my battery, let's just say that I don't do anything from the things you described in the post above.

This forum is for people who have problems with their battery under Mavericks, what do you expect to find in it, just because you will find sick people in the ER does not mean that the rest of world is sick as well.

Your problem is almost certainly caused by a badly setup and configured Mac, you can wail on about it or you can do something about it.

Which way do you want to go.

And just as we'll never find a cure for a disease without any people starting to suffer first, we are here to share our thoughts on this problem.

What's wrong with you ? How come you are so certain that you are better than the rest of us in here ?

I'm telling you there is nothing wrong with my setup. And when you say do something about it, do you mean go and pay a lot more to Apple as a reward for messing up my battery ? Do you happen to have Apple stocks or what ?

The vast majority of people on this forum, me included, had Macs that we're working just fine prior to upgrading to Mavericks. I think thats what's causing the frustration, an upgrade has changed many computers for the worse and Apple aren't even acknowledging that there may be an issue. It's MobileMe all over again, they'll fix it eventually and then admit there was an issue but we won't care because (hopefully) they'll have a fix for it.

My apologies sir, I meant to say that the vast majority or people on THIS PARTICULAR THREAD had Macs that were fine prior to installing Mavericks. Can your obviously superior intellect not grasp the concept that we too are fans of the Apple brand, it's just that we just have the ability to judge said brand objectively. I would also postulate that most of the 9,000,000 forum users are not computer experts, such as your good self, which may have contributed to our decision to purchase the Apple product because of their superior user interface that usually 'just works'.

So it would appear that a lot of people out there, after upgrading to Mavericks suddenly have "badly setup and configured Macs", because there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with OS. Perish the though!

A quick perusal of this thread shows that of the (now) 312 posts many are duplicates, some do not have the problem, some have had the problem resol and some (200+) do have the problem.

There's a lot of threads like this where someone has an obvious Mavericks-related battery problem and then some jag-off with 40,000 posts tells the user to run through a 28 step diagnostic process to isolate the user's particular problem because there's no way in **** that there could be a problem endemic to a particular class of Mac with the Mavericks update.

I wonder if this very real problem will ever be solved.

Not without some troubleshooting and testing.

Or waiting for someone else to.
