Mavericks - power use / service battery
Has anyone seen their power use increase dramatically (or their service battery warning come on) after upgrading to Mavericks?

Same here, guys.
Macbook Pro 15" Mid-2009.
As soon as I upgrade to Mavericks, I got the Service Battery alert.
The battery used to last at least 5 hours, now lasts about 2 hours.
Before Mavericks, Coconut Battery showed 96% of design capacity. Now it's down to 74%!!!!
Load cycles: 398
I'm gonna calibrate the battery right away, but I think Apple should look at this HUGE PROBLEM THEY CREATED FOR US.
Thanks again, Apple.
800MB is insanely high isn't it? Imagine life if you din't have atleast 4GB RAM. Still 25% of RAM!
No background processes that I am running actually. No Antivirus, No cleaners. I dont install any software other than office on my mac.
Removing tweetdeck helped a bit.
btw - I followed your advice to someone else and got the dump - what do you say?

me too facing the same issue after insatlling 10.9.2. mine is mid 2012 with 296 cycles
Well, after 6 months hoping that Apple would release a battery firmware fix, I decide to take time off from work and took my MBA (mid 2012) to the care centre for a battery replacement. They emailed me their diagnostic test results and their assessment was a "defective battery". Since it is out of warranty (expired), they charged me almost $200 for battery replacement plus labor. I have to wait 1 more month to get the MBA back because the service centre doesn't keep spare parts and need to order the battery from Singapore. I am from Manila, Philippines.
Oh.. I am almost convinced that buying apple products in non-US and non-EU regions is extremely risky as there is just no service network at all.
Two years ago, my keyboard started behaving crazy and the service center did an SMC and PRAM reset and suggested I needed to change the keyboard for $200. It turned out that it was a software issue that fixed itself after I removed a few 3PT software.
ok... Do you mind taking a look at the dump? Thanks for being so kind. Cheers!
Just noticed the same problem here. Although I didn't notice any service battery warning until today and upgraded to Mavericks on the day it was available. I have a mid-2012 macbook pro and my cycle count is only at 278 and it is displaying a service battery warning.
Also, these are my current readings. Started the morning with 100% and after moderate use (just reading this thread and using iMessage), I'm at 53% and it says 3:09 left. I've definitely noticed a decline in battery longevity after upgrading to Mavericks. I would get around 6-7 hours and now only getting 3-4 hours. Also noticed that the battery time remaining is not quite accurate. Going to try recalibrating and perhaps doing a SMC reset. Another interesting issue: the Service Battery warning disappeared after a restart but battery life still abysmal.

I got the same issue here. Macbook Pro early 2011, upgraded to 8GB and a Sandisk SSD, my battery used to last around 7-8 hours, and now I guess it lasts for less than 4 hours after upgrading to Mavericks.
I am also getting the Service Battery message.

Guys! same problem for me until now. No solution and be careful. This was my problem: http://vicendominguez.blogspot.com.es/2014/04/no-difference-apple-support-is-bla ckhole.html
Good luck!
Today I solved the dreaded 'service battery' error after trying all the other options reccomended here to no avail. I tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, draining to zero and fully recharging, reformatting and reinstalling fresh versions of Lion and Mavericks and everything else that's been posted, but nothing untill now worked.
So I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a new OEM battery from iFixit for my mid 2012 13" MacBook Air and fitted it myself. One thing I did notice when I opened up my MacBook Air was that my old battery had a small dent in the corner and one of the lugs that hold the screws to fix it in place was broken. I'm wondering if an accidental knock or drop may have caused the issue. How delicate are these batteries? I don't know.
Anyway, fitting a new battery has fixed the error, thankfully, and it was much cheaper than sending it to Apple to service.
Word of Warning: Don't try this if your MacBook Air is still in warrantee, you'll void it if you try and fit a battery yourself. Take it to Apple.
However, if you're outside warantee and want to fix it yourself, head over to http://www.ifixit.com for the parts, tools and guides needed.
Is this an Apple battery, or 3rd party, and how much did it cost?
