Q: Mavericks - power use / service battery

Has anyone seen their power use increase dramatically (or their service battery warning come on) after upgrading to Mavericks?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

After installing Mavericks, the battery on my late 2011 Macbook Pro is 100% dead. It has an 'X' through the battery icon and the system does not even acknowledge that a battery is installed. How bout some help here Apple, WTH?

You will need to contact Apple if you wish them to help. These are user to user forums. I would suggest a trip to your local Apple Store if your battery has died completely. You can send them

    FEEDBACK    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

But I would think that you would be better off having your Mac seen to ASAP.

    Cheers

I think I just ranted by mistake.  If anyone saw it, I am truly sorry.  I am started to get very frustrated with Apple, so apologies if I sounded rant-y and unconstructive.  Does anyone have any concrete ideas about how to go forward and get this battery problem resolved in an amicable way?  I've always been a loyal customer of Apple and always will.  How do you share with Apple, besides the feedback page (have done so already) in a productive and generative way?  With thanks, Julie

It's not an issue affecting everybody. A similar issue arose with Mountain Lion, Lion and Snow Leopard. Apple released an update for those to address the issue. They will not, of course, release any update until they are sure of the issue and the fix required. So, as with all recent OSXs, just be a little patient, or if you can't, then reinstall your previous system from the backup you made before you installed Mavericks, then just keep an eye out in the App Store to see if and when Apple address the issue.

    Cheers

Same here.  I can't believe that it's a coincidence, my battery was working just fine before the upgrade to Maverick, I really regret I upgraded!  Not only is my Macbook Pro (mid 2010) booting up slower, but as soon as the upgrade was done, my battery warning came up saying to replace the battery now.  It looks like it's charging, the light is green and the percentage shows 100% battery but as the replace battery warning is there and if I unplug it, the macbook pro dies immediately.  Please Apple, fix this so we don't all have to run out and buy new batteries!

As with anybody who pleads here to Apple, which is  a waste of time as these are just user to user forums, I have posted the feedback link for you to tell them of your displeasure.

Yes, I did that there as well, but I figured I might as well voice it everywhere, maybe they'd pay attention.

No. The oppiosite probably. They won't pay attention here. All you are doing is taking up space and wasting your cyber-breath.

    Good Luck

Well, they do follow this to some extent since all I did to get Apple service to call me and ask for diagnostics was post here. And that leads to think they're actually addressing the issue and hopefully an update will follow. I for one will change it back to 10.1 if necessary to have my battery hours back.

Yeap can confirm that. Apple also called me and at the end I've handled them some diagnostic reports over. So they are aware of the issue. Also my flat mate had an Apple Genius Bar appointment because of the same problem. At least the shop in Hamburg (Germany) allready knew about the issue.

It won't be possible to revert to 10.1, as it only supports PowerPC laptops...

Same here. Rick from Apple called me in response to my post in this thread. Apple seems to be listening and taking the issue seriously. Keep posting here.

I would be ok with this issue if I was assured that the hardware is untouched and that my MBP will return to exactly how it was, with a software update.

And I was also contacted by Apple, so they do watch this forums, or atleast what concerns with them only.
