I had some funky stuff happenning on my iPod touch 5. Just updated to Mavericks AND  iOS 7.0.4. The same hang up when finishing sync and some songs became unavailable on the iPod. Finally, I just let it sit when in the finishing sync zone and it did update some more songs after 20 minutes or so. Now it seems all good....

This problem has been driving me crazy for the last few weeks. It actually got worse with the update from iOS  7.03 to 7.04. (Before, eventually, the sync would finish correctly after several attempts. Not anymore.)

The ONLY thing that worked for me was to connect the phone to my iMac, and in iTunes, select the phone; go to "music" and deselect the button to sync the "entire music library." Select the button for selected playlists, artists, etc.  I checked to include music videos, etc. Then I manually selected ALL of my playlists and ALL of my artists, etc. When I clicked to sync, it worked! Took a loong time, but I could see it happening on iTunes and on my phone.

What a pain! C'mon Apple! Fix this one!

I discovered that deleted a smart playlist worked for me. The playlist in question had about 6 parameters. Other playlists were syncing.

I synced without the problem playlist and substituted another one of similar file size. It worked. I deleted the problematic playlist and re-created a similar one.

    I haven't had problems since.

Still no fix and none of the suggestions have worked for me... might be time to switch to Droid (bite my tongue).

i've been thinking about it ever since switching to the 5s.  it does not do the dishes like apple claims.  It's slower, people cant hear me and i can't hear them and it's so much more child like than the predicesor.  Also:  my girlfriend has a droid and hers, according to our multiple internet speed tests that we do right here in my home, is blindingly faster than my 5s.  she has none of the troubles i seem to have and even the games like deer hunter which is on both the apple store and the google play store, works better on hers than it does on mine.  Also, her screen is bigger, brighter and when we do video comparisons, hers are much sharper.  it *****.

so does anybody know if apple ever plans to address this well documented problem?  ***?  I'm going to smash my phone into a million pieces.

After days of getting frustrated I finally found a solution: Don't use itunes to sync music. After going through pages of possible solutions (restores, syncing albums one at a time, removing all music, deactivating accounts, making a call while syncing and various other things) as well as trying to contact apple support (Which was a joke--They wanted to charge me $19.00 to get help for a problem with their software), I changed my Google search terms to "how to sync music without itunes" and  I found a program called CopyTrans Manager for free. It only took me a few minutes to add the new tracks to my iphone. It automatically organizes it the same way itunes would and you have the option to make your own playlists. Best of all it synced the first try! Itunes is now dead to me. Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to do with all the free time I have since I'm not going to be spending hours banging my head at my computer ready to throw my phone out the window.
