How do I purchase 10.7 Lion, now Mavericks has been released?

Hi, I have just bought a cheap MacBook Pro today, 2006 Model A1150. it has 10.6.8 Snow leopard installed and I want to update the OSX to the latest available version ie. 10.7 Lion as I've read Mountain Lion is not compatible.

Lion (and also Mountian Lion) are not available in the UK App Store since Mavericks was released. So I was wondering, how do I now legally upgrade my Snow Leopard OS?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2006 Model A1150

CALL the support number for the Apple Online store.

They will sell you a download code. You pay by credit card. They send you the code in an email in 1 to 3 days.

Since Mt Lion was released the only way to buy Lion was to call Apple sales and buy it over the phone. Apple will then send a Redemption code to your Apple ID email address that you can use in the Mac App Store to redeem, download and install Lion. At least that was the way it was.

But now since Mavericks is a FREE upgrade they might of stopped selling both Lion and Mt Lion. The only way you can get either of those 2 previous version of OS X was from the MAS and to do that you needed Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or .8. Now if you have SL 10.6.8 you can get Mavericks for FREE. If your Mac computer can't run Mt Lion or Mavericks then Apple might just hang you out in the wind. Figuring IF you hadn't bother to upgrade an OLDER Mac to Lion, one that can't run Mt Lion but can run Lion (Lion has been out for over 2.5 years now), it's time for you to buy a new computer. Apple stops all support for their computers after 5 years. So if you have a early 2007 model you are stuck with running whatever version of OS X is now on it.

Many assumptions and speculation on your part. Do you have any firm evidence that Apple WILL hang users 'out in the wind'?

Yes they dropped the standard Macbook Pro model. What does someone do that does not want a Sealed Computer? Buy something other than Apple.

This is to be found in the Apple online store and I do not believe it is a 'sealed computer' but a 'standard model' (at least by how I understand your terms). If I am wrong, please correct me.

The absence of a direct response to my prior query strongly suggests that there is NO FIRM EVIDENCE.

Ciao.

THIS JUST IN!

these redemption codes no longer require a telephone call. They are now readily avaliable for sale in the Apple Online Store, for redemption code delivery typically in one day. The rest of the procedure is the same:

Yet another example of why downloaded software is bad for the consumer. Many times I have needed older versions of software and can often find them legally for sale on eBay or elsewhere.

Now we must submit to always using the latest version of everything even if it obsoletes some of our perfectly working hardware.

Downloaded software only has advantages for the seller.
