mac ms office is not being recognised by parallels 8

I have MS office installed on my imac (about 6 months old) and parallels 8 (windows 7). All working Ok but when exporting to excel from my windows based accounting program it wont access my mac installed excel. Can anyone help as I am sure it is in my settings but have over and over it and cant get it to work. Thanks
