How to Re-Locate the "iMovie Theater" Away from Boot Drive?

Frank Su tw, Thank you for the trick to create a link (unix). I got the link created, but when I open up iMovie (Version 10.1.6), the "Theater" is still empty (I do have a a bunch of projects exported to the Theater before I moved the 20 GB file to an external drive)?

What am I missing or where am i going wrong? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Creating a symbolic link worked for me.
FYI other than using the unix command you can also download and use an app to create the symbolic link (like SymLinker).

Steps are as follows:

1. Move file or folder to a new location or drive

2. Open SymLinker and drag item to "Source" field

3. Browse to the Movies folder to create the "Target" to save link

4. Select "Create" to save the symbolic link in the Movies folder

I have the same problem. What is this "iMovie Theater" file exactly.

It's the Theater part of the new iMovie system, if you publish something to the Theater it's ending up on the Theater-file in your primary drive... I'm looking for someone how can help me with instructions how to relocate this Theater-file to my secondary drive since I have the same issue as you...

I've tried to create a link, and it works fine! Do the following:

1. Move iMovie Theater to new location.
2. Open Terminal Window.
3. Type: ln -s (new location directory)/iMovie\ Theater.theater ~/Movies/iMovie\ Theater.theater
   ex: ln -s /Volumes/External\ Drive/iMovie\ Theater.theater ~/Movies/iMovie\ Theater.theater
4. Hit return
5. Done!

I have this problem too. Really disappointed with this upgrade.. theater eat a lot of space on the boot drive, also loss some of my movie clips...

Try to create a new theater library and move your files there...

You also have the option to select File > Share > (then deselect "Add to Theater" if you so choose) > Next and choose the location you want to save the file. Simply click on the default folder presented and choose any location you like. This provides good control over where you want to save your finished projects outside of Theater.

Theater is just a way to provide an integrated and simple user interface.

I keep trying different things to make this work. Could you make up a hard drive name and plug it into this equation? I've moved the file to an external Hard drive, not in any folders. The Theater file is simply in my user directory in the movie folder. I've even tried doing this with a symbolic link app and that didn't work either. Thanks.

This didn't work for me.

I entered:

ln -s/Volumes/Storage\ 3/iMovie\ Theater.theater ~/Movies/iMovie\ Theater.theater

but received this response:

ln: illegal option -- /

usage: ln [-Ffhinsv] source_file [target_file]

ln [-Ffhinsv] source_file ... target_dir

link source_file target_file

Did I do something wrong?
