I use parallels to run quicken in windows 7. After upgrading to Mavericks, windows 7 and quicken have slowed to a crawl and become basically unusable.
Anyone have any ideas on how to eliminate the slowdown?

Is it slow while you're actively using it? I know with final cut, when I was rendering in the background, it would just stop, due to the app nap feature. Maybe check that out?

Do you have Intego VirusBarrier installed? If yes, just disable real time scan and let me know.
Yes, I have Virus Barrier and it seems to be the culprit. Interestingly, I have a Windows 7 and Windows machine installed on my macbook pro. It was only the windows 7 machine that exhibited the extreme slowdown behavior until I disabled the Virus Barrier real time scan. Thanks for the tip.
I noticed Paralles app napping . . . I disabled app nap for Paralles and no more problem.
You do this by right-clicking/control-clicking on the app, select "Get Info" from the context menu, in the Info window check "Prevent App Nap"
That is because Parallels 9 is terrible. Period. The company has become a bunch of rip off artists which is too bad as it used to be a good purchase.
