Now that I have installed Mavericks my wifi connection issues are back!

I have similar issues now with Maverick, after having solved them with Mountain Lion.
Symptom:
Wifi connection drops about every 5-10 min, with or without active connections, i.e. even during an active Skype or Messenger call.
Same thing when surfing and not klicking on any link for more than 5-10 min.
This is extremely annoying, because the connection can only be restored by disabling and re-enabling the WiFi.
I had these issues before with Mountain Lion 10.8.x, and I lastly resorted to retiring my 6 year old router and buying a recent Linksys N Router, and with the right settings, the problem disappeared.
Since then, I haven't changed anything with my configuration, and after I had installed Maverick 10.9, the problem reappeared.
So I am inclined to say the problem is now a OS problem as nothing else has been changed. What is going on and how can I resolve this?

Very cumbersome and so not Apple-like!
Fed up with wifi connection issues after the upgrade, I happened to mention it to a friend at my job who is much more Apple savvy than the average bear and he suggested that I disable iCloud on my MBP. Bingo!! I'm surfing the web with lightning speed again! System preferences>icloud> sign out and agree to remove all of the choices from your mac. I like and use icloud, but I like being able to use my MBP more, and until an update for this issue is found, I will do without iCloud. Try it.
DeidreC, you're a life saver! I've been having these Mavericks wifi issues since the last Mavericks update and its been driving me nuts! After trying a bunch of other "solutions" which had been unsuccessful, I decided to give your one a try and BAM! it worked!! So far so good, pages are loading like they used to and not a single dropped connection so far!
I'm on a Late-2011 MBP and hopefully signing out of iCloud is the fix - the weird thing is that I have a 2013 Retina MBP for work, its not connected to iCloud yet it has the same wifi dropping issues??
