Why can't I see my own sent messages?

I just upgraded to Mavericks and I'm having issues with the Messages app.

I can both send and receive messages, but I can't see the messages I have already sent.

Any suggestions?

When I'm having a conversation with someone, I can see the messages that they send to me, and they're able to see the messages I send to them on their end, but I can't see the messages that I send to anyone. In other words, the chat history only displays their message bubbles, not mine.

I didn't have the messages app before upgrading to Mavericks, so there isn't any chat history before I upgraded.

Hi,

So you are not seeing something like this:-

User uploaded file

Both side are "me" .

The Top Hat one is the pic from my iPhone (My Card).

The sig pic one is my Mac's Messages Pic which also appears as the sync pic higher up (almost out of shot).

Go to Messages Menu > Preferences > Viewing and change the Font and colour

You have to change the background colour first before you can access the Font Choice or the text colour.

Once you have changed the colour then Quit Messages and then reopen it (Some changes should be instant but closing the app should make sure the changes are saved.)

Can you see "your self" now ?

No, that's not what I'm seeing.

Here's a screenshot:

I had initiated this conversation with "hello," and he responded with "hi" and "this is a test." Additionally, I sent "this is another test" in response to his last message. None of my messages are displayed, though.

I tried changing the font and colors as you suggested, but that didn't seem to any effect.

Hi,

I did start the last post with

So you are not seeing something like this:-

I have since Bolded and underlined the Not.

So a simple Wrote to the .plist involved by changing the colour has not work.

Lets force it to be recreated.

Quit Messages

Open a Finder Window.

In the Go Menu hold down the ALT key as well.

You should now see a Library option

Select this

Navigate to Preferences.

Find com.apple.ichat.plist (there will be files of a similar that you can ignore)

Drag this file to the Trash

Restart Messages.

This deletion will reset all Messages preferences back to Defaults.

The Stuff in Viewing such as the Colour, Font and Text colour.

The Video preferences options such as Bandwidth and Mic choice.

The General section regarding when I Quit set to Off line and Show Buddy lists in one list.

Some Menu items such as the Sort order of Buddy Lists can be changed.
