can't download the Enhanced Dictation Engine

It has been a month since I posted my suggestion and I've forgotten what else was important.

Did you restart? Delete any related .plist files?

This is an example of my dictating with the localized version of the app:

Mary had a little lamb, it's fleece was white as snow. Everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.

my friend don’t have internet and he want to install enhanced dictation so he can use it , to use it you need internet or download the file so you can use it offline , everybody knows that right , i downloaded enhanced dictation in my mac is already install i went to

en_US.SpeechRecognition copy that folder and paste in my usb drive

i went to the same location in his mac and paste the folder from my usb to his mac and now he has enhanced dictation working and enable and he never connected to the internet

i also know how to do this with voices i will post later if anybody need it

let's say you reinstall the mac system you don’t need to re-download the folder because you already have it all you need to do is install it and if somebody need it you can install it offline

When I next went to Aust I called apple support who did some jiggery pokery & it now works. I wish there had been a much easier way. Thanks for all the help along the way, & good luck.

You didn't say anything abut rudeness, so I guess the guy I talked to has been replaced. I hadn't thought that he would last long with Apple. They have an exceptioal crew, and he just didn 't belong.

x509v3 worked for me too, just downloaded and installed and it worked! Thanks, I tried the other suggestions deleted all three files emptied the trash, restarted multiple times and it would never download.

Hello. I am having the very same problem as everyone else who has added input to this discussion.

Even though I have downloaded and installed the 785 MB package called "SpeechRecognitionCoreLanguage_en_US.pkg", and enabled "Enhanced Dictation" in the "Dictation" prefs pane in the "System Preferences" app, and am using some of the better voices now such as Allison, Ava, Samantha, Susan and Tom, every time I click on the "fn" key twice in order to start dictation in TextEdit or BBedit , the dialog window STILL comes up which says "Finding Enhanced Dictation". It progresses for perhaps 10-15% of the progress bar, and then I get the error "An unexpected error occurred while downloading the dictation language "English (United States)". Try again later."

I have tried this many, many times over the past several days, and still get the same results.

If I disable "Enhanced Dictation", and then enable it again, as per instructions in this message thread, I STILL get the same results, with the same dialog window and same download error message.

Can someone here please verify that "SpeechRecognitionCoreLanguage_en_US.pkg" is the file that my computer keeps trying to download, even though I have already downloaded and installed it. Or is this "English (United States)" some other file? I know that in the "Dictation" prefs pane window, it says that the file is supposed to be 1.2 GB in size, and not 785 MB, which is why I am wondering if we are talking about two different files here.

I had simillar problem and one day noticed that my /etc/hosts file was modified.

In general it should look like this:

Works perfectly for me.

His solution is quite long, simply you just should open terminal,

type su and provide root password.

open hosts file:

nano /etc/hosts

and configure it as I have showed above.

Close nano ctrl+x and select Y to save the changes.

If you are not sure what you are doing please copy hosts file, and backup your system.

I found that the problem was because the company I worked for had not kept their update center up to date. If you have admin privileges then you can point the software update back to Apple:

Open Terminal

sudo su

Enter password

softwareupdate --clear-catalog

exit

Close Terminal

That cured the problem for me.

When I select "Start Dictation" from the "Edit Menu", I get a dialog box that gives the following messages:

Finding Enhanced Dictation…

Preparing to Download

Installing Enhanced Dictation…

And then nothing.

When I select "Start Dictation", I get the dialog again with the same messages, same results (none)
