Mavericks broke IMAP in Mail, throwing bogus SSL error.

Suddenly Mail claimed it couldn't connect to my regular E-mail account at my ISP (not Gmail), because of an SSL error. But my 10.8.5 system with the exact same credentials, account configuration, and router connects no problem.

The error says, "The identity of “mail.myISP.com” cannot be verified. An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made."

The Mail "Connection Doctor" test log doesn't show any errors, but the account is still flagged as inaccessible after it's "tested."

Anybody else see this? Mail is useless as it stands.

Well, it worked perfectly before I upgraded, and my laptop continues to work perfectly on 10.8.5. Given the number of IMAP problems being reported in Mavericks, it looks like a suspect.

And I found another SSL bug: If you turn off "use SSL" in the settings for your E-mail account, that action is ignored. The next time you pull it up, "use SSL" will be turned back on.

I've installed Mavericks on several different computers using clean installs as well as upgrade installs from Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard. No problems with IMAP in Mail.

I wonder if your installation is "good." I would suggest trying:

Re-download and reinstall Mavericks.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I tried to create e new account IMAP: same problem (new accout IMAP in a new user). Nothing

Conection status: Impossible to connect to IMAP server (I'm translating from Italian 😉); verify your connection and account preferences. Verify if your server support SSL. In not, deselect SSL option.

I tried everithing without any result.

If I try with Thunderbird, it works fine.

Apple, wake up!

Hello Everyone, it is the same for me. It was working before, and stopped right after upgrade. I tried to delete accout and add it once more - without any change. In the same time Thunderbird works just fine. It is also OK when I switch to non-SSL IMAP in Mail.app, so apperantly error is related to SSL. Connection doctor listing below. Apple, please issue fix ASAP!

.13bLOGIN BAD Error in IMAP command received by server.

I was able to add every IMAP email account that I tried so far, but hard to ignore that so many people are having issues adding theirs... Try this and see if you are able to successfully add your IMAP account...

Mail > Preferences > Accounts > ➕ sign > Select Other Mail Account... > Then Continue

Fill out your Name > Email Address > Password but before hitting create hold the option key and create should turn into "Next"

Now you need to know your ESP Mail Server but that should be relatively easy to find... You can even check out http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/ as it contains most ESP settings out there.

Now this is the moment of truth, next you press next Mail will try to sign you into your account let me know if it works this way or no go.
