Apogee Duet (1) not working on Mavericks

I had been on Snow Leopard and Duet worked fine. Upgraded to Mavericks, now it does not.

I plug it in initially (after reboot) and sound comes through the Duet. If I touch any volume control, the sound cuts out. In Maestro, the controls are all very finnecky, can't select any options. If I unplug and replug, still no sound comes through. Assuming it's a problem with Maestro compatability, but I've heard that Mavericks isn't really playing nicely with other non-apple hardware either. Suggestions?

Have you checked with the Apogee folks? Perhaps they have updated drivers?

Apple support got back to me after a few days with the following:

--------

I’ve heard back from Apple Engineering on this issue. Apple Engineering has received reports of this symptom and are investigating. Further updates, if any, may come by way of a software update, knowledge base article or software release.

It may take some time, but they are working on this.

The engineers did suggest a couple of work arounds:

• Creating a partition on the SATA portion of the Fusion drive, installing and running the Mac OS from there.

• Installing the Mac OS onto an external drive, and running the Mac OS from there.

------

So basically what's already been said in the thread. I'll get back onto them when I get a chance and see if I can get some more info and reccomendations for that. It'd be a shame to not get the fusion drive performance that works so well for all my other stuff....maybe I can bite the bullet and get an external ssd to run it off which was my long term plan anyhow...

Product exchange was the solution the apple customer service rep recommended. I've already lost use of my Tascam US122L, returned the Yamaha Steinburg, and thought for sure the Apogee would be the way to go. I dont have access to an older Model Mac for recording purposes hence the reason I bought the iMac and Duet.

By increasing the kHz to 176 it did work for playing iTunes, but sound has more treble, tinny, and after almost an hour each time fails, starts to stutter, and click and pop.

Not all of us are computer guru's and even know how to carry out drummercol's instructions from the engineers. Especially if it negates al the good features the new iMac has.

So come on now guys and gals inside the apple box, find us all a solution update, and let us get back to recording.

This is some serious BS and a huge problem! I, like many others, have recentley invested a small fortune in ugrading, and expecting to use all the features of the product purchased. Work arounds, testing and down time is costing ME even more MONEY. Nobody has reached out to the users from Apple, and there is NO sign of a real solution. I have emailed Mix, Electronic Musician, and ProSound News to see if they are interested in looking into this, since Apple does not care to do anything accept put out a new phone every 6 month. This is an APPLE ISSUE. I can honestly say that after this last experiance I will be looking into other solutions for my business and customer needs. Again, I am preaching to the choir on this subject and other feel as strongly as I do.

I don't think it's solely a problem for newer Macs. I have an older Mac Pro and have used my Duet FireWire for years. The ONLY change to my system at all was updating to Mavericks, and I have been experiencing problems with my Duet. For me, luckily the sound is usually still quite good, although I get static once in a while that I never used to hear, and there is a strange inconsistency between the volume control on my Duet and the volume control on my Mac Keyboard. You know the little squares you see on the display when you adjust the volume on a Mac? I get different "readings" (i.e number of little squares indicating volume level) when I adjust one or the other. Like if I set the volume at two squares with my Mac Keyboard and then try to turn it up a little bit with my Duet's volume knob, it will jump to whatever the last setting was on the Duet. Uninstalling/Reinstalling Maestro 2 doesn't fix it. Apogee's updates haven't fixed it.
