Q: Apogee Duet (1) not working on Mavericks

I had been on Snow Leopard and Duet worked fine. Upgraded to Mavericks, now it does not.

 

I plug it in initially (after reboot) and sound comes through the Duet. If I touch any volume control, the sound cuts out. In Maestro, the controls are all very finnecky, can't select any options. If I unplug and replug, still no sound comes through. Assuming it's a problem with Maestro compatability, but I've heard that Mavericks isn't really playing nicely with other non-apple hardware either. Suggestions?

    Hi,

     

    Maestro 2 stopped working for me when I upgraded to mavericks (constant crashes right after launching it).

     

    After reinstalling the Maestro Software numerous time with no results, I simply tried:

    - Go to application folder

    - Right click on the Maestro icon, click "Get info" and then check "Open in 32bit mode"

     

    Now it works.

    I'm late to the party here, but the frustration I've had with my Duet 2 and my 15" 2011 MBP/LogicX have caused me to really resent Apogee.  My issues with the device relate to synch/midi related ones.  Can't even playback much less record anymore with this combo.  That said, my HDD was maxed out and I was asking the little guy to do things well above his pay grade.  He was a soldier, though!  Hopefully it will work on my updates recording rig:

     

    2011 Mac Pro (12 core, dual 3.46 MHz @ 64 GB with 3x SSD/1 HDD - app/os, logic projects, and libraries will all be on diff drives) with Logic X.  I am hoping that the Duet will be able to find a home here.  I'm keeping Mavericks on the machine until the Yosemite "Trim fiasco" is sorted out.  If the Duet continues to exhibit problems with this uber rig, I'm moving over to RME, who are known for having rock solid/stable drivers and legacy support.  I'm never spending money on another hardware company that can't produce stable products.

    Hi Frank,

     

    Have you reached out to Apogee Support about this issue? Apogee offers free tech support and has been pretty awesome about this stuff. Duet uses Apple's Core Audio Compliant Driver (Apogee Duet uses an Apple Driver not an Apogee driver). They also released a new software installer specifically for Yosemite, sometimes if you completely uninstall the old version of Maestro and re-install the fresh one, it gets you up and running. Either way, give the Apogee guys a call they should sort you out at +1 310.584.9394.

    PS. Duet specs out better than RME gear in regard to D/A,A/D converter and preamp specifications. You'll get deeper integration with OS X as well especially if you're on a Logic or Pro Tools rig.

    Thanks for your suggestions - I haven't spoken with them due to time constraints, but it looks like I owe them a call at the very least.  I've tried all of the troubleshooting steps they've provided, but nothing has helped.

    I was having a similar problem with my duet. and I found that this worked and made it run correct on my Mac Pro tower 32 Gb.

    The Duet is finicky but when it works, it sounds excellent.

     

    I did find this on the Apogee website and tried it as a last attempt and it worked!

     

    Launch ‘Activity Monitor (Applications> Utilities> ‘Activity Monitor’), click the ‘View’ drop-down desktop menu and select ‘All Processes’. Type ‘apogeepopup’ in the searchbar in the upper right-side corner of Activity Monitor. Once you see ‘ApogeePopup’ displayed in the list, highlight it and force-quit the process by clicking the ‘X’ button in the upper left-side corner of Activity Monitor. Wait a few seconds and you should see the popups again after adjusting input/output level.
