Q: Apogee Duet (1) not working on Mavericks

I had been on Snow Leopard and Duet worked fine. Upgraded to Mavericks, now it does not.

I plug it in initially (after reboot) and sound comes through the Duet. If I touch any volume control, the sound cuts out. In Maestro, the controls are all very finnecky, can't select any options. If I unplug and replug, still no sound comes through. Assuming it's a problem with Maestro compatability, but I've heard that Mavericks isn't really playing nicely with other non-apple hardware either. Suggestions?

Tested last night and found the same issues as noted in the past posts. Confirmed that both Mavericks and Maestro are running on the latest updates, but problems still exist. I was able to reset and correct the issue by swithing the clock setting in Maestro from 44.1 to to any other samp freq, then back to 44.1 and the problem went away. Not sure if this is a Mavericks issue or not but I never had this issue until Mavericks.

    Hi there,

waiting for a solution from Apple/Apogee I temporarily bypassed the problem by choosing in Logic Pro X Preferences/audio:
    - Input: Duet
    - Output: Mac Ouput, using headphones output.

I worked for hours last night without experimenting noises or distortion.
Just once Logic lost the Duet Connection, I rebooted and worked again without anyproblem

In my situation LPX was not even part of the work flow. I was just using iTunes. I still think we have an Apple/Apogee issue that needs to be addressed, and SOON! please:)

I'm having the same problem.  Apogee Duet 1 > firewire > thunderbolt adapter > mid 2012 MBPR, Mavericks.  Was working fine on Mountain Lion, now am getting crackle/popping on simple audio playback with Quicktime.  Newest Apogee driver installed, didn't solve crackling isue.

I got the same issues.  Upgraded my old 2007 imac to a new late 2013 imac with fusion drive running Mavericks and my duet (firewire) stopped working.  Crackles, hiss, meastro freezing, all the things described in this thread.  Decided to spend $750 and buy the new Duet 2 (USB) and have the same issues.  The bloke in the shop promised me it would work because they're "made" to work with macs.  Rubbish.  I'm going to take it back.

Anyone got any suggestions on what I should use that's around the same price?

    Hi buckleyscave,

I also upgraded to the Duet 2 in an effort to resolve this issue.  I also still have the same problem.  I have done some pretty extensive research and it appears that this is not just a problem with Apogee products on the new iMacs.  So, if you get another audio interface you are likely to still have he same problem.  The issue is with the iMac and Mavericks.  Please make sure to vocalize your frustration to Apple so that they will prioritize a fix for this problem.  They are aware of the issue, but it has been a couple of months with no resolution now.  The more people that complain the more likely they will get it fixed sooner.

    Thanks and good luck!

You are experiencing that exact same issues that we are. I have found that switching the sampling freq 44.1 to 48 and then back solves the issue, although not a real solution. This is not a solution but a work around since CraApple and Apologee doe not seem to care to fix the issues addressed for numerous months. Are you running on Mavricks?

Duet just work with Snow Leopard...

I'm using Mountain Lion and I have the same issues as you guys. I'm seriously considering buying a new audio interface.

    Apogee SHAME!

I tried out a Duet Firewire and Duet 2 on the latest 21.5" Haswell iMac with a Fusion Drive. I have a clean install of OSX 10.9 and everything works beautifully. No dropouts, no clicks or pops on playback for hours. Duet Firewire was attached with a FW400 - FW800 cable and the Apple FW to Thunderbolt adapter.

Maybe you can try re-formatting and installing a completely clean version of OS X 10.9. Then install the latest version of Apogee software and your perferred DAW software.

I'm having a very similar issue. I purchased my new iMac 27" quad-core last month, updated to Mavericks. Purchased my Duet iOS last night from a local Guitar Center, brought it home, followed the setup intsructions EXACTLY step by step and when I tried installing the new firmware through Apogee's website it kept saying, "Could not find a Duet Connected" After much frustration I contacted Apogee's tech support over the phone. The tech guy had me update my Duet iOS using my iPhone and the Apogee Maestro App through my phone. (has anyone else encountered this???) *Weird* seeing that since they claim that Apogee products are supposed to work "seamlessly" with Apple products I had problems right off the bat. I followed the tech guys directions to update my Duet iOS' firmware through my iPhone, then reconnected my Duet iOS back into my iMac, Then installed the software, Rebooted my computer and hey what do you know, it seemed to have worked.....for about 10 minutes. the Duet appeared in my Sound Preferences in both input and output, but after about 10 minutes my Duet in Sound Preferences changes from Duet to Unknown. All playback via iTunes, Logic X, Youtube, etc. just freezes up and no sound comes through at all. A reboot of my iMac seems to fix the problem but after 10 minutes im just back to the same old thing. It freezes. I'm also running a Late 2013 27" iMac Quad-Core (Fusion Drive). This is real frustrating after the fact that Apogee products are supposed to run real well with Apple products and so far its been a real pain in the butt. I have music creating to tend to!!!!

This is extreamly frustrating. Both the computer (which was over $3K and the apogee gear are not cheap. We do as directed and READ the support spec and ecerything say OK, but we get hosed. And then when we reach out for support we are ignored. Both companies are aware of the issues but dragging their feet finding a solution. I am sure that both companies read these forums, but none have yet to respond.

hopefully they create a problem fixer soon seeing that this original post was created almost a couple months ago, you would think they could have fixed it by now...idk. i would really hate to trade this interface in for a different one. as far as the specs i really like it...
