Q: OS X maverick and installed MS Office for mac

Hi,

My MBP (mid-2012 model), which currently runs on Mountain Lion, has MS Office 2011 for Mac installed. Would upgrading the MBP to OS X Mavericks affect the installed MS Office?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    ***?

    This is comical.

You're misleading people, nto helpiong them. You know you;re not a techie, but insist on making (possibyl misleading) technical conclusions.

That's what bothers me, and likely, many others

My posts outline how my problem got solved.   If you see something comical or misleading about that, I can do nothing for you.  My posts are not for you.  I hope that you can someday solve a problem for someone, if you are really a Mac user.

One person 'confirmed' it for YOU

Yes, the MS Office customer service tech confirmed it for me.  If she hasn't convinced you, that's not my problem.  I'm just trying to help others solve a serious problem that is happening a lot, from what I'm reading.  MS Office tech support was very valuable to me, and I will say it out loud.  I am not a techy, and don't pretend to be.  If you take offense at one Mac user trying to help others, then you are probably a poser, not even a Mac user.

Hasn't convinced me? I have no idea of the conversation or if it even took place.Do you have a name? A link? A contact? Anything other than your 'apparent' story which may help others? Any technical advice?

Didn't think so. Yet you post and demean others? These are technical forums. Not a blog or twitter.

    Cheers

I am not attempting to convince you of any "conversation or even if it took place".  You are not a concern of mine.  Nobody needs to be given a "contact" or a "link" to MS Office customer service.  It's on the product.  I am just trying to help someone who may buy a brand new 15" Macbook Pro Retina and who might have problems installing MS Office 2011 for Home and Business.  These factors are specific and selectively discriminating.  If you are not having this problem, you need not respond, and in fact, your response henceforth is unwelcome.

    Nonsense.

How do I make sure I have the most recent version? I update software when it prompts me.

I am having issues with Microsoft Word since I upgraded to OX X 10.9.1

Mine also isn't working. It's Office 2011 version 14.3.9. Excel and PP seem to be fine, just word is acting quirky.

Yes, I just checked and I am running Word version 14.3.9 also.  All that I can tell you is that MS Office customer support can help you sort it out.  The font file will need to be modified as it is not yet compatible with Mavericks.  You should be running OS 10.9.1.  No re-install of Word or Mavericks will help, the MS tech's will have Word fixed up for you quickly.  I'm certain that the next version of Mavericks will have this sorted out, but we don't know when it's coming.

Just got a brand new MBP Retina 13". Used Migration assistant to turn all my data over to my new machine --I did not check software as it indicated 25 hours of transfer time !!  Data alone was a couple of hours.

Anyhow, I used the opportunity to buy a new license of the MS Suite (2011 for Mac) to move up from the 2008 version. Finally figured the way to get the download link (link provided in email from MS was wrong, great start).

So I'm trying to install the Suite but I constantly get an error message from the Installer with these very clear and telling details available as a report to send MS.

My hypothesis : there is something, some file somewhere left behind from my data transfer (old computer) that impedes the installation process to go thru. But what and  where ??

    Anyone has an idea ??

    Humble help needed.

    Thx

    F

PS Yes I did restart. No cahnge. Yes I'm kosher, no need to ask. The license is valid.

Called the number provided by Alcotaz. Got rerouted to the “Mac Team”. Talked to Mike in the Philipines. Gave him control over my Mac (yeah.... totally uneasy about that at first). We checked that I had indeed uninstalled every trace of previous MS Suite installs. Then downloaded a different installer from this site :

    http://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/MacOffice2011/en-US/MicrosoftOffice2011.dmg

Resarted the installed procedure, with success this time.

    Happy.

    Kinda...

WHY ON EARTH IS IT ALWAYS THAT DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH MS PRODUCTS !??!?!?!?

Now, being fair, I must admit the quality of the over-the-phone service provided by Mike was just great. Effective an actually enjoyable !

So voilà. Thx again to a great community effort (! ), I can now suffer with MS products for sake of compatibility with my clients.  ;-)
