Qmaster 3.5.3 conflict with OS X 10.9 Mavericks

As Studio_X said, the way to enable it is to use the terminal. I'm not sure exactly how to configure it that way, should you need it, but it's all there in the help files (I supposse)

OK. I'm confused (not unusual).

Compressor 3.5 (and 4.0) are also 32 bit and they are apparently supported. What's with the Qmaster set-up?

Qmaster Setup used to be in System Preferences.

Which turned 64-bit in 10.6.

But it had 32-bit mode, where it could run 32-bit code.

Apparently this mode is now silently dropped out.

FCP does not require Qmaster. It is the clustering app for Compressor. You can run Compressor in its default state (usually 1 instance) and it will work - you just are not able to harness the computing power of multiple cores as effectively.

Sadly, I'm happy to hear that the issue is also with Compressor 4. Then it will get the attention of Apple. I've read nothing but mediocre reviews for C4 and wouldn't want to be forced to upgrade for something so minor.

We should probably all give shocking reviews on the app store. That'll get their attention...

I'm working to restart Qmaster from the command line. Perhaps you can help me? Not sure how to restart.

I'm getting a permissions issue:

qmasterprefs restart: need to start qmasterd but user ID = 501 (should be root), exiting.

Try putting "sudo" on front of each command.

Thanks, but still no go. I recently reset all the permissions on my home folder, so that could be the issue. I tried sudo but got this outcome...

sudo qmasterprefs -restart

sudo: unable to stat /etc/sudoers: Permission denied

sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting

I had the same problem when I updated to 10.9. Qmaster was no longer accessible and I could no longer use multiple cores in Compressor 3.5.

I purchased Compressor 4 which integrates Qmaster and all is well now. All 8 cores at 100%. Fortunately it's not too costly.

Strange, mine works with sudo. Maybe you should kill existing processes before restart?

I'm not fully aware how things go with osX, when there's no "root" user. Or maybe I have enabled root sometime in the deep shadows of history...

Can you manage "C4 integrated qmaster" to also render something else than Compressor's tasks?

To be honest, I think so but not positive. You may have to reaearch that.

For people that are still trying to figure out how to use Compress 3.5 with Mavericks, just buy Compressor 4 and be done with it. Qmaster works great with C4 in Mavericks, all cores are encoding at 90%+.
