Apps keep turning cellular data on

Which iOS version are you using?

Did you do a full clean restore without using any previous backup after your latest iOS update?

I just wrote a workaround for this problem that does not require jailbreaking or resetting any settings on your device.

But how works that workaround? It seems your are setting each application data toggles to OFF on that configuration file (manually editing them), but I dont see the real difference between your proposal and doing it using the iOS settings GUI graphical toggles. 😕

Actually there's absolutely no difference at all, but in my case I could not change the toggle buttons value in the iOS (they were stuck in a previous state), which means that I could not disable access for apps that already had cellular access neither do the opposite.

By using this workaround, toggle buttons became "active" therefore being possible to choose which apps should or not be granted cellular access.

Do you mean that some of your Application data toggles were stuck in ON position, and as you were not able to move them to OFF position; had you this manual trick putted in place?

So now, you can again enable/disable all your Application data toggles?

SOLUTION!

I have the same issue for the last two weeks. But i have already managed to solve the issue all by myself. When i go to Settings > Cellular > below the tab "use cellular data for:", i turned off some apps which i didnt want to use with cellular data. As soon as i go back to Settings, and then i went back to Cellular, the apps which i had switched off earlier, automatically turned back on.

Here's the solution:

Either you're using wifi or cellular data, first of all you're gonna hafto turn on the cellular data use for App Store. Once you have turned it on, go to App Store application. Update ALL the apps which have new updates available. If it asks you to log in your App Store, just do so. If there's something wrong with your debit or credit card information, it will ask you to update to a different card. Just do what it asks. Put in a new credit or debit card info and fill in the forms provided. The card you're using must be usable and has usable balance in it. Let's say atleast $10 to $20. As soon as it confirms your card successfully, the app updates will start automatically. Continue to update all the apps. After all updates are finished, go back to Settings > Cellular. Try to switch on or off some apps for data use and recheck.

Try it yourself! Have a nice day & don't put a blame on Apple for this.

this is d worst solution u put for this bug from apple. Let me tell u when u update any application the cellular data automatically switched off for that app, u have to on it and once u on the data there is no way back.u can use that app in cellular data off till u On it once.

So the solution provided by u is fake and yes we have to blame apple for this bug because he chareged so much for his phone and now its almost 6 month of this bug n apple unable to resolve.

Dude, i just tried it myself yesterday though. Have u tried it before u wrote the comment? Just follow my way step by step. If it still doesnt work for you, we might not having the same issue. You shouldnt simply say this person is wrong, that person provided fake solution, that other person is ******** or whatever. (:

Previously someone suggested to us that restoring as new, not using any backup whatsoever and then updating to a the newest iOS was a solution and I was quite against restoring as new because I'm super lazy but this solution worked wonders for me and I did this maybe a month? Month and a half ago? Didn't want to say it had successfully worked until I knew for definite the problem had gone. And since restoring as new and then updating using no backup I have been able to turn off these apps again, so I recommend to anyone with this problem to wait until there is another iOS update and then restore as new before updating as this works entirely! So thanks to whatever user that did suggest this solution as it's a life(data) saver

I think I may have found what is causing this issue. I have iCaughtu pro installed and that seems to be enabling data itself. What I did was, I uninstalled iCaughtu pro and now the switch is not being set to ON by itself.

Still observing how this behaves.

I have done a hard reset. Nuno, thanks but thats a very long process you outlined and Id hate to manipulate some code that later leads to problems. I will let you guys know if my hard reset with no restoring backup works. I have a Iphone 4S.

A hard reset works, but you loose all your preferences, app settings, etc.

The whole idea of this workaround is regain control of the toggles without doing a hard reset.
