iCloud sync is not an option!

    We need local sync back!

I do not load up my private data in a cloud service!

Send feed back to Apple I agree, I don't use iCloud and using it for contact and calendar sync is something I will not do. http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

Thanks....this answers my query but doesn't solve my problem and its not a sensible move on Apples part.    My problem is that i access my work calendar/contacts etc on my mac and have always sync'd my phone etc from home as I don't have administrator rights on my work pc and therefore can't load itunes on it .

So far as I'm aware only calendars/contacts etc created on the mac are loaded to icloud so basically I'm stuck (unless I'm prepared to re type all my contacts/appointments etc onto the mac, which is rediculous).

Anyhow I'm grateful for your help as at least I know that its not a fault on the mac or iphone

I refuse to use the Cloud also.  Not just a privacy issue, but when I've tried to sync with the cloud I end up with all my calendar events and contacts multiplied several times.  Where do we complain?

where do we get an alternative for syncing for the folks that refuse to use iCloud and share their personal data?

going through the forums, it looks there are a lot(!) of folks sitting in the same boat and therefore I don't see this thread as solved!!!!

did anybody try SabreDAV or knows of an alternative?

I read most views and I am happy a lot of people agree that what apple did is ridiculous and abusive and most importantly without any warning, it is good some people have found the work around with creating a local network or something similar but we are talking here about syncing a phone with your mb over a cable!!!!! I need to have control of my information as I see fit and I consider myself a average user without any major issues with privacy conserns but woulld apple give me access to their contacts and calendar without warning??? IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO CHANGE THIS APPLE!!!

Even if I wanted to use ICloud, (which I don't) , I can't, my old iPhone 3G does not support iCloud !

Give me back the choice !

Cause is the removal of the "sync services" framework in the new OS X Mavericks.

There is a lengthy thread over here: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

    Effects:

Sync services was used by iTunes to synchronize calendars, contacts, (and in the far past notes and reminders), between iOS devices and Macs, if these were not set to sync via iCloud. This sync happened during the iTunes sync over USB or local Wifi. With the removal of sync services, iTunes can no longer do this and users have to fall back to iCloud or other cloud services.

    Problems:

    Opinions voiced mention the following:

    1. Don't want that private information in the Cloud for for fear of hacks and abuse
    2. Loss of control over safety of data, server errors happen (see Amazon), and Apple will hardly pay damages. If my Mac dies and I didn't back up correctly, that is my responsibility.
    3. Fear of government intrusions
    4. iPhone 3G, original iPad and iPod touch 2G do not support iCloud and are now disconnected regarding contacts and calendar
    5. Legal issues concerning EU customers when storing business/client/patient/student data on non-EU servers.
    6. On the go with Laptop and iOS, only the latter may have internet access and they can't sync.
    7. Data consumption of iCloud (it once burned through my entire 300MB plan in two weeks, before I turned it off)

    Solutions:

    1. Contact Apple through http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html in the hope of getting sync services back, one can hope ;(
    2. Use an alternative cloud service (Google, etc.) for unsupported devices
    3. Set up your own server in the home network
      1. OSX Server
      2. ownCloud
      3. open source CalDAV and CardDAV servers
    4. Revert to OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion (Warning: iTunes 12 will come eventually and may not support sync services anymore)
    5. Use iTunes in Windows
    6. Pen and Paper
    7. give up and use iCloud
    8. Deal with it

I wonder if Apple realises this is not going to go down in the EU, with it's Privacy concerns (i.e. see Edward Snowden), I wish they would add the option back to allow me to synch how i wish to synch.

Anyone know what we can do to make Apple aware of this? I will post up on the feedback link what I can,

and see if they re-act, hopefully someone inside Apple is reading the news and aware of what is happening

    in Europe around privacy concerns.

I just want the option to either synch entirely without icloud the contacts or with, but not by force

    Would Fantastical do it? http://flexibits.com/fantastical

Not sure if it syncs locally with Fantastical app on one's desktop / laptop or whether it has to go via iCloud or Google calendar. It's really nice to use.
