is apple OS become creepy or what ?

Oh, ok, that's why it is free now...

iCloud sync is not an option!

    We need local sync back!

    Hello all,

I also just opened a question to this before I saw this discussion.

I agree with all comments. For me the easy sync-mechanism of all important data was the most important reason to use complete apple-hardware. To change this to force the whole community to use iCloud is absolute unacceptable!!

    Would Fantastical do it? http://flexibits.com/fantastical

Not sure if it syncs locally with Fantastical app on one's desktop / laptop or whether it has to go via iCloud or Google calendar. It's really nice to use.

    Fantastical uses iCloud.

Devices failed to appear in itunes and I could not wi-fi synch my iphone (4s) and ipad (2) since upgrading the imac to mavericks. Connecting devices physcally using the usb cable did work though. Only, as soon as I disconnected the cable the devices became invisible to itunes whereas this used to work prior to mavericks.

In my case, what solved my problem after some searching was to enable the IPv6 "link-local only" mode on the imac (go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6). My IPv6 default config was set to 'off' or 'disabled' since IPv6 first appeared years ago on osx.

Restart the imac and voila!, the devices magically appeared in itunes again and I could synch music, apps, contacts, calendar etc ... It's all working flawlessly via wi-fi synch again.

I too am thoroughly disappointed with Apple regarding the elimination of Sync Services and have been following the many threads/blogs that are dedicated to this problem.

Because I don't want to use the cloud, I was forced to pick from a small list of undesirable Rube Goldberg like options. I chose to roll back to Mountain Lion which buys me a little time while an "old apple-like" solution (read simple) is found. Hopefully Apple, if not being coerced by others into this feature removal, will return sync for those of us who were happy with it, or at least not stop others from filling the void -which Eltima's Syncmate 5 vows to do sometime this winter.

Please remember to give Apple feedback:

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

so they understand that this isn't acceptable and also take a moment to rate Mavericks in the app store. That's a very real way to let the company know that all is not well with their customers.

All is not well with 'some' of their customers is more accurate.

All is not well with some of their previously existing users is even more accurate. Many of us purchased a system with the ability to locally sync phones and pads.

A major "upgrade" removed that ability.

Has to previous users, can't count future users.

Thanks for your help with this. Were you able to find a way to wirelessly sync your contacts/calendar/notes without the iCloud? Or did this just work for the rest of the data on your phone?

There is no option at present except setting up your own local server such as

    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6311

You can give feedback to Apple, but with 320+ million users of iCloud, I do not know if this is on top of their priority list or even on their radar. I suppose future updates of Mavericks will tell. The more noise people make on Apples official feedback site, then perhaps the more they may consider it. Nobody knows except Apple.

The Mavericks iPhone Calendar/Contacts issue is as stupid as it gets for Apple....Its like not pulling down your pants while going to the bathroom....Its total extortion to buy iCloud once you eat your opening 5GBs.....Anyway

    my work around.........

When I get a gig or Dr. appt...whatever

If I happen to enter it first in my MacBrookPro first....

    I E-MAIL IT TO MYSELF

With the calendar entry in the subject line...

Exactly like this: MTG@NYC3PM 12/28...Using Subject Line only is enough...I think the space between the appt and the date is important.

I download the email to myself. The date is in blue...

To go to my iPhone with a sync in mind...(Apple should call it the kitchen sink)

I tap and hold the blue date...then choose create new event...It loads into iCal... and I tweak it

I delete the date at the end of the event title, in edit mode....I leave the time in, because I'm an "all day" man...I prefer the filled-in color look, and go by the time in the Event Title....I've always titled my events this way anyway because of the look. But it can be tweaked as you like....Yeah, it *****...but it works for me...

Conversely, if the event I get starts in the iPhone....Same thing as above...and E-Mail it to myself...

when I get the email on my laptop....forget the blue..I put the event in the body of the e-mail.. .I just mouse over the date to the drop down menu, and Add to Calendar, and tweak accordingly...

    Cheers!

    It's possible!

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5871

Basically, enable disk mode on the iPod, and copy your vCards and .ics files to the iPod's Contacts and Calendars folders with a simple Finder drag & drop. Contact and calendar info are back in th iPod Classic!

I will look and see if this can be automated with Applescript or some such.

I have no answers to this, sorry, except that every time I speak to anyone from apple on this subject they direct me to feedback (which I've done) and tell me that apple may relent if enough people demand it, so I'm adding my voice here as well.

To all the apple engineers who may be reading - please give us local itunes sync back. I want to control my interactions with my data - I dont want apple reading my diary and I dont need icloud as a middleman.

I think they meant for you to use their proper feedback site and not a public user to user forum. In other words, Ape are not here. You will find their feedback link mentioned at least once in this old thread.

    Cheers
