Nov 7, 2013 1:53 PM in response to AndreaMrxby LTBGolfKing,I'm hopeful that I have a solution - at least this worked for me. I hope it does so for you.
Same issue - printed from my MBA through the wireless net to a WinXP PC. Brother 1240 Laser is the printer. No issues until Mavericks then all the same behavior. I just was able to get it to work by installing the printer using the "Advanced" tab in the "add printer" box. I installed it as an LPD/LPR host or printer. The URL was lpd://10.0.0.33/nameofprinter (what ever yours is called on the host). I got the URL from the PC - Control Panel -->Network-->LA Connection (PC is hard-wired to router). Click on the LAN connection and you'll get the status window - the IP address is on the "Support" tab.
I changed the name to the name of the printer and the location I left blank. I used the CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.9 driver. Printed a test page and began screaming as it printed perfectly.
YMMV but good luck. Only other thing I did today was to update iTunes on PC with the thought that if Bonjour was causing the problem best to have it up to date. Don't think that was a factor but you never know.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Determining the IP address per your instructions did the trick for me. Apparently I had been trying all of the previous solutions with the wrong IP address. Now I am able to print from my MBP via a WinXP PC with a USB connected Epson MFC 7340 and to a very old HP 5MP that is connected to an SMC 7008ABR router/print server.

Your solution worked like a champ... after removing the spaces from my shared printer's name!!
And if you can't figure out how to get the Advanced tab see - http://kb.cu-portland.edu/Adding+a+Printer+for+Mac+OSX

Nov 8, 2013 1:24 AM in response to J.C.Macby Dones, for me, it added printr and now changed from "unable to connect" to "printer is in use"

Nov 8, 2013 4:35 AM in response to Bob NYCby Michael Lindner1,Let us know if that continues to work. For me I cna print as long as the printer is "on" - that is, if I reboot the printer or if it has recently printed something. After a while I can no longer print until I do it again.

Nov 9, 2013 9:59 AM in response to AndreaMrxby MARTA JB,Finally I am printing with the HP Laserjet 1320 connected at XP, using the SQeek LPD configuration.
Some tips: In Mac the queue blank no runs me, yes with the printer's sharename.
I must use PCL generic driver, specific driver runs very slow.
Thanks SQeek

Nov 10, 2013 2:50 PM in response to J.C.Macby ExMonk,Thank you for pointing out that the shared printer name should have no spaces! Using LTBGolfKing's instructions seemed plausible, but I couldn't get it to work until your post. I replaced the spaces on the shared printer name with underscores, and it worked perfectly.
Connecting to an HP LaserJet P1006 running on Windows XP which all worked perfectly until the Mavericks update.
Fixed now. Thanks to you and LTBGolfKing!

Nov 10, 2013 3:03 PM in response to LTBGolfKingby nyctravis,I'm trying this solution, but when I click the Advanced tab in add printer, I get greyed out boxes that won't let me enter anything into the boxes. Type, Device, and URL are all greyed out and I can't use any of the pull-downs or enter a URL. Any thoughts?

Nov 10, 2013 4:33 PM in response to LTBGolfKingby OuchYoung,This charm failed after restarting the printer server... and when I tried to add the printer again, Mavericks reports that there's something wrong with the printer, poping up a window asking whether to continue. Either way won't make the printer work... Sigh...

Nov 11, 2013 2:19 AM in response to AndreaMrxby OuchYoung,Thanks to AndreaMrx I might have got this done! Just waiting for another reboot of the XP printer server!

Nov 11, 2013 5:16 AM in response to LTBGolfKingby shanjack,This is the only suggestion that has worked for my stiuation connecting to a shared HP Laserjet 4050 on XP. I was able to use the drivers for HP Laserjet 4050 as well. I would only add the suggestion of changing the name of the printer on XP to something simple and one word.
