iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.4)
I'm having the same problem, I had just purchased a new imac 27" just a couple weeks before the release of OS mavericks. Before the upgrade to mavericks, my imac stayed connected to the wifi...now, after the upgrade to mavericks, it seems to drop everytime I do not use my computer for any length of time. Every morning, i have to right click on the little icon showing the wifi signal, and click "turn wifi off", and then I right click the icon after its showing disconnected and click "turn on wifi" and my wifi starts working again....no clue whats causing this, but since it's a brand new system, i'm getting abit angry over it. I've been dealing with this the last week or so, mainly because i do not want to drive for almost 2 hours to go back to the bestbuy to have them look at my iMac for a couple of weeks only to tell me that it was a user setting or something stupid.../sigh
oh, and btw...this is my first mac, (besides an old used macbook i bought and used for 2 weeks before getting this 27" iMac...i'm not a very knowlegeable mac user....however, i'm not very impressed so far =(
pfft, forgot to add, the iMac is the only device on my network that's doing this....not other devices, my iPad, iPhones, xbox, ps3, other PC's in the house...all of them stay connected like they are suposed to do...iMac is the only one i constantly have to turnoff the wifi and turn it back on to get it to connect again =/
I keep having the same issues on my macbook pro. Installed Mavericks and I am constantly losing connection. I already rebooted my router twice. Thought it was Safari, but Chrome doing the same. Never had this issue prior to install of Mavericks.
I'm having the same problem with Mavericks. Keeps dropping wifi signal after a period of inactivity.
For an additional update:
After further troubleshooting the issue, it appears that it happens most frequently when I'm downloading a large file, i.e., movie from iTunes. I've downloaded movies prior to Mavericks and did not have issues, not even latency issues. Now, it appears it's completely knocking out my internet connection (not my WiFi since that is still active on my Macbook and my iPhone).
I've noticed this at well (glad to know I'm not alone here)...
I upgraded from ML to Mavericks a few days ago and CONSISTANTLY my wireless will drop if I don't use it for a while, and I have to manually tell it to reconecct to a particular network each time. It doesn't seem to have any connection to a download or anything, I could be sitting watching a movie on my desktop or browsing the web and I'll notice it's just suddenly gone.
I was starting to think it might be my wifi card or something.. I'll try timing it maybe and see if I can get a more precise amount of time from one drop to another
I have this same problem with my MacBook Air. Whenever I wake it up, I now have to disconnect and re-connect the wi-fi. The signal strength icon, on waking usually shows an exclamation mark!
I've just purchased a 27" Mac too and previously with my 21" Mac the connetion to the BTinternet server was fine; now it drops out frequently and is very frustrating! Tested WiFi connection and all ok and router functionning. From these posts, will Apple do anything about it in a software update by any chance?
Suggest you go into SystemsPrefernces/Netwrok.. delete the Wifi service "-", and then recreate it "+"... then press the "apply" button.. then reconnect to Wifi.. and/or reboot your Mac.
Thanks for the input. I'll give that a go. Fingers crossed!
Unfortunately this hasn't worked. I've just woken my MacBook and the wi-fi is up to the same old tricks.😠
I can confirm, for those who are interested, it is something within Mavericks. I just spent the morning restoring my installation of Mountain Lion to my normal partition: wifi works fine. Reinstalled Mavericks via update from the app store... started dropping the connection every 15-20 minutes or so whether it's in use or not 😟
I hope this gets recognized as a known issue..

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
I have found a fix for this. Basically, you go into your library and delete the network preferences. When you reboot the machine, the OS will recreate the files from scratch. I've had no issues since.

Backup these 2 files:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
Then delete these 2 files and reboot.
