Q: after i upgraded to maverick, my internet connection keeps dropping

I had also done all of the .plist deletes and clear cache prior to the above but that did not seem to fix the issue for me.  Energy Saver was my solution.

This is not my issue, definitely not caused by power saving.

This post make sense and is probably another viable workaround, but does not solve the problem that I believe Apple needs to fix.

What I believe happens is that the computer completely loses any memory of the WiFI connection when it sleeps. Turning WiFi off and back on causes it to go looking for possible connections, and if you're lucky it will reconnect to the same or a new signal. But it wont reconnect automatically, they way it used to do before Mavericks.

So if the computer never sleeps, yoiu avoid the problem. However if the computer never sleeps you will presumambly also be using up more power or battery life; and saving power was supposedly one of the features that Mavericks was going to provide.

It looks like adjusting the Energy Saver solved the problem on my iMac.

Well, now I do not lose the internet connection at the expense of not saving energy!!!

Turns out the problem still reappears, but far less frequently. I don't know what else to do now.

As a side note, I had the problem with the sleep & wake loss of WiFi connectivity, too. But the connection would also drop every 10 min. while amidst of something, e.g. a Skype call.

I really do hope somebody at Apple is reading and tackling this problem.

Like I said, my energy saving is all disabled. My iMac doesn't sleep, although I manually turn off the screen at night using one of the corners with the mouse.

The only way in which I have solved this problem was to disable WiFi. This is doable since I am on an iMac plugged directly into the cable router.

I don't need WiFi. But this is really a problem for anyone with a laptop.

What I'm really confused about is why Apple Maps needs WiFi to function. That's B.S.

I have a similar problem with my Mac MIni, connected to my router by ethernet cable.  The ethernet connection seems to fail periodically.  When I turn on WiFi and connect that way, then it works. 

Ok, i've tried all the things posted so far, and nothing works...i've turned my power saving mode OFF, and unchecked all the boxes...still disconnects from the wifi after a period of time of non use....no other devices in my house drop my wifi connection, not my iphone, or ipad, or PS3, or any of my other window's PC.  I have a larger family and every one of us have a smart phone, and a PC connected.  I have the only Mac in the house, and i have an iPad and iPhone connected to the same network.  Only my 27" iMac is having an issue of dropping off the wifi when i jump on it to do reports.  I'm sure there is a fix, but it's quite frustrating as i've always been told mac's are reliable, and worth the extra cost when compared to a windows based PC.  The only fix i have atm is to right click the little icon at the top right corner and disconnect from the wifi and then right click it and connect to the wifi.../sigh

They *are* reliable, this is just a bug in Mavericks that they need to fix asap. Also, mine was fixed when I disabled WiFi and used the cable but that is not "the fix" nor is it a decent workaround, it may have just "fixed" it for some weird reason in my case.

I submitted this to Apple in their feedback, including a suggestion that they freaking stop requiring WiFi to be enabled for Apple Maps location service.

For me, this issue was resolved by turning off iCloud on my MBP 2010. I believe it has something to do with the keychain because I would get prompted to insert the network password every time I got kicked off and attempted to join again. I was able to stay connected to the network for hrs and after opening and closing the MBP several times.

THIS FIXED IT ON ALL MY COMPUTERS running Mavericks:

- open Terminal (Apps / Utilities / Terminal)

- type "caffeinate" without the quotation marks and press enter

- nothing will happen but leave that window open

The problem, in my case, was that Mavericks was going into some sort of sleep mode even though I hadn't activated the sleep functionality when plugged in. In fact my screen worked perfectly and the laptop wasn't sleeping.

However, Mavericks seems to sleep on some level.

CAFFEINATE seems to keep it always on. So when I leave my laptop backing up all day or downloading some big file it never loses wifi connectivity anymore.

what a absolute worthless piece of crap has Apple delivered with this upgrade: missing drivers, dropping internet connections, slow connections, slow everything, ..

Any way to downgrade?
Or should I switch to PC?

It is very friendly of a user-community to search and share solutions, but frankly Apple has to take care of this. I have been struggling all morning with a dropping internet connection. Some people use their Apple for professional purposes. I have hardly done any work this morning, this simply costs me money.I do not have the time to go through topics and search for solutions.

Very frustrating.

Macbook Air 2012 11"

Luckily I did only upgrade my Imac and not all other devices.

So, for now I am using my Macbook for surfing/mailing/ ... everything else that requires network. Unfortunately, most of my documents for professional use are on the imac. So, I am using the good old usb-stick again to transfer.
