Trackpad gets stuck after Mavericks update

I have a late 2008 15" MBP running OS X v10.9. I updated the OS to Mavericks and every now and then the trackpad gets stuck: if I click it clicks, but if I try to move the mouse/use gestures it doesn't move. If i try to move it with the wireless mouse I don't have a problem. After a minute it starts working normally again and after a while the same thing happens. I tried rebooting and the problem persists.

I'm guessing that this is a bug with Mavericks since it never happened before...
