Hello guys, Can you do something for me please?
I have a customer with the same problem and found the problem and solution, but want to confirm is the same.
Go to your broken apps, right click, show package contents. Open Contents folder and then Resources.
There will be a lot of files, and there SHOULD BE a folder named "Base.lproj" do you have it? if not, thats the problem. I will post just to help you both folders for each app, but the problem might be spread in more apps.

Textedit: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4956916/OSX/Base.lproj-textedit.zip
Calendar: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4956916/OSX/Base.lproj-calendar.zip
Just paste it in your apps/Contents/Resources folder and it should work (after unzipping of course).
Let me know please 🙂

🙂 nice one, worked a treat
I thought so...meh, now If I may ask.
Did you ever used any crap like "Mac Cleaner" or any program of that style?
edit: also, check other apps, in my case I couldnt open any stock app. Calendar, Reminder, AppStore, MAil (this would open, but would freeze when openning an email), etc
clean my mac 😠
and yes i cant open the other apps, did you write the new files yourself?
HAAHAH!!! Ok, well now I know for sure. THOUGHT the **** question is why. I mean, I dont ever EVER use that crappy programs, anything to clean computers, neither windows or mac, I hate em, I do it manually, but still it shouldnt delete this files, so weird.
This solved my problem. Thank you! I use TuneupMyMac and MacKeeper. My Terminal program quit working as well. Where do I get the Base.lproj for the other programs like Terminal and Mail. (My Mail is only 1/2 broken.)
Well, I can provide it for you gladly, though since I dont know (in my case) which other programs were affected, I did a repair reinstall (just reinstall without wiping) to make sure everything is fine again.

thank you so much for these files, those apps now work fine
could you possibly provide ones for FaceTime, Maps, and Contacts?
the problem seems to be specifically affecting all the Apple apps stored!
(also affects Chess, though that's not much loss to anyone)
Thanks for these files.. They're really helpful! i've got problems with my textedit, terminal, mail, and calendar and it's okay for now..
Could you provide the base.lproj for Preview and Appstore? *even appstore also crash. :'(
thanks before!

iBooks and QuickTime are other ones to add to the list that people might not be able to open...
judging by the many similar posts elsewhere, this seems to be affecting really a lot of people, what a mess!
Well, as far as I asked and recieved answers its all about using crappy cleaner programs. "Clean my mac" "MacKeeper" etc.

yes, that's exactly the problem!
specifically the 'remove foreign languages' option
it thinks Base.lproj is a language because it has similar filename structure
🙂 apparently they are aware of the problem and it has been fixed with version 2.2:
Thank you for contacting MacPaw Customer Support.
We're aware of this issue. This is a compatibility problem between older versions of CleanMyMac 2 and Mavericks, already fixed in CleanMyMac 2.2 - the latest and fully compatible version of the application.
