I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

I talked to the support. We did the SMC thing and the other thing (I don't remember) both need you to do a reboot and press a couple of keys.
I still get that message and I showed it to the support guy via this remote support software. He suggested to take my MBPr to the store tomorrow for replacement. Since I have a 2.6/16/512 BTO, the store will not have one on stock and I will have to wait another 6 or 7 days ...
Although I strongly think it's more a software problem, I do not want to take the risk ...

Also my feeling tells me, if it is a software problem only, why does not Apple talk about it and tell the people, there will be an update soon? Every day many people bring in their MBPs for replacement - which costs Apple quite a lot of money. People would stop doing so, if Apple would announce that it is only software-related, no? So people stop bringing back their brand new devices, which Apple then has to sell as refurbished (and loose money)
Just my thoughts on this

Guys, I think regardles if it's a software or hardware issue (although I strongly believe it's software related), Apple will take care of it as it always did. So try not to freak out and mass-return your laptops. Mostly if it's a BTO.

I had hardware issues after 3 years on my 2007 MBP, the motherboard was defected, so they replaced the motherboards for free, regardless of country and Apple store on that specific series. I think that's great service, so try not to freak out. They are very good at this. Solution is on its way.

However, please submit your feedback and call them! The more we urge them, the faster we get a fix.

It does happen on many MBP, but not on all. For me, this means, even if it is software-related, the hardware is somehow different. So maybe some update "fixes" this issue - but how? If this is related to the USB-port, will the USB-port after the software patch really work as stable and fast as on a MBP which does not have this problem, even now before the software update? I spent big money on this, do I really want a hardware that is not 100% okay and the software patches this bug somehow? I don't know ...

So far, my MBP has not frozen again. But the messages in syslog still come up. Of course, nobody ever proofed so far that these messages really have anything to do with the freezes. It might have nothing to do with it.

freezing & tiny graphic errors with my new retina 13" late 2013

i bought my 8/256/2,4 retina a few days ago. from time to time my trackpad and keyboard died. i thought it was a hardware problem but now i know my mavericks freezes. thanks to everyone here, its my first mac and it looks like a bad start into apple gear.

i called apple care and they told me to bring it back and get a new one but now i know this would be waste of time. while i am writing these i had a freeze again and i did not install any third party software on my macbook. i just updated the flash player yesterday and cool down everyone i think it is not the flash player that kills the os. i was just safari running and no high heat and so on ... usually i pushed the power button to restart my system but this time i justed closed the mac and opend it after a minute or so and i could use my keyboard and the trackpad in the account screen. this is maybe the best solution for now.

for two or three times i had some small graphic errors. one time there was a grey line across my display for a second and in the bottom right corner right above the dock i had some coloured blinking for a second or so.

one guy reported this here before and i think it is a software issue too but to be honest i paid about 1300 euros for a premium notebook which shows me things i have never seen on a windows computer before.

this is the best looking notebook i ever had and the build quality is rock solid, the retina display is a joy to use. i love the keyboard backlight and i absolutely love the apple care hotline. these guys do a great job and i hope apple will fix this soon. unfortunately i have to protect my investments and maybe i have to bring it back within the 14 days. hope they fix it soon.
