Sending mine back. I'm going to wait until they find the problem. I don't trust the hardware but I hope it's only

    a software problem.

I wonder: what will Apple do with all these returned devices? Sell them as certified refurbished? It has to be an amazing high number of devices as I read so many people already returned theirs.

support told me the temp fix it to close the lid wait about a minute then open it. you should be in control of the keyboard and pad again.

I posted some days ago that I am having the same issue. Yesterday, I went to Best Buy where I got my mbpR 13 to ask if they were aware of the problem and if they got any returns and they said they have not gotten any returns so far and that they were not aware of the freezing/trackpad/usb issue.

I wonder if this was an issue with an initial huge batch of mbpR and they fixed the OS image right away? I got mine last week right after they launched them. I checked the log of the mbpR they have on display and did not have the error. Has anybody checked the log of the display mbpR at your apple store?

it is OS related. they are working on a patch. I was online yesterday for about an hour with them.

this was sent to me by apple support

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013): Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive

    Symptoms

Apple is aware of rare circumstances where the built-in keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive on 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (Late 2013) computers and is working on an update to resolve this behavior.

    Resolution

If you experience this issue, reset the keyboard and trackpad by closing the computer’s display for approximately one minute and then open it.

@Xazoola All this is known for a long time already. The resolution from Apple (closing the display and reopen it) does not work for all people. What does work for all people is to have an USB device plugged in.

A fix of the OS image is very unlikely. Otherwise it would not make sense that there is still no patch/update available.
If there are devices that do not show this error and/or this freezing-issue, I would tend to believe it is hardware-related after all and the first huge batch was buggy.

The rMBP you checked on display at Best Buy - it was a 13" ? It didn't have anything plugged in to the USB port?

I submitted a bug report last night and received a follow up request for logs which I supplied.

I was able to recreate the freeze within several minutes of removing the USB device so I got good logs.

I encourage everyone else with access to please do the same.

    Thanks,

So this issue is definitley a software issue, correct? I have yet to experience the said issue but see the errors in the log.

Just cancelled my rMBP 13" order right now, was waiting for it to be dispatched but after all this crap I'm reading I think I'll wait until the problem has been fixed and more importantly fixed at a production level (not post-sale level).

It is absolutely appauling that Apple can release a product whereby every unit sold is faulty whether it be software or hardware issue, this is a joke! Then they issue a temporary fix of closing your laptop and then opening it back up again, just so that you can then use it again, that's embarassing to say the least.

I'm all for paying top money for top products always have been and this won't stop me loving my current MBP and my iphone etc which are 100% reliabale, but if you (Apple) are going to start shipping products with bugs pre-installed in them 'right-out-of-the-box' then you best start lowering your prices to match.

I feel bad for all you guys with this issue and hope they get this solved before the coming week begins, also thank you all for providing first class information and findings, hopefully that will speed up the process of issuing the 'fix'.
