    True.

If I had to bet a 1,000 big ones right now on whether the problem effects all units or just a few, I would happily bet on 'all units' without batting an eyelid.

The Best Buy Apple representative told me there is an "Apple Professional" designated for these stores, and he was the one working directly with apple to get the rMBPs working to place them as display. She did know the specifics about the issue but did not know the specifics about the fix or solution.

I asked the same question: If you fixed the rMBPs on display, can you fix mine? Her response confused me though, she said that the computers on display are not intended to work 100% like the computers that we get, she said those rMBPs have less features. She could not go on the details of that statement. I asked to speak with the apple professional but she told me he will not be back today. She told me the only reason she would let me know all of that is because she noticed that I probably spent some hours trying to figure things out.

What this "fix" situation tells me is: In order to hold a batch of rMBP and get them replaced because they are defective, they must have escalated the issue to a higher level (at best buy and apple). Therefore, Apple, at some level, knows about the issue since day 1. I am not saying this as a negative thing, but the fact that we are in Day 9 with no solution makes me assume that this is a big deal (either software or hardware issue).

I have come to the conclusion that I am paying for the whole experience:  Opening the box, get the feel of a great product, turn the MBP on and have an amazing experience. For that reason I have decided to wait until day 11 (lucky number I guess), if there isn't a solution by then I will return the item and wait until they release a 100% functional product.

I will come back and try to talk to the apple profesional who was involved in fixing those machines, and if I get more information I will let you all know.

The guest user does not have access to /var/log/system.log
So yes indeed, the error does not show up under the guest account.

    Hi All.

I bought this all new apple retina 256GB / 8GB 13" mac book pro 2 days ago and i am having the same issue. I spoke to apple support team in Australia and they said they don’t know anything about this issue and apple hasn’t advised them about this issue.

Anyone knows whether apple working on a fix for this or not? Is this is a hardware failure or software failure...

    Thanks

I guess this is a software issue because some 2012 MacBook Pro Retina are having the same problems after updating a trackpad driver.

Hello. Can I add a fresh voice here? I am a refugee from Windows and new to Mac, so please be patient. I have had my new rMBP 13inch 4GB for two days now. I have been hammering it since I got it out of the box: multiple downloads, video streaming, surfing, email, word processing etc.

I haven't had a single freeze. I have the dreaded error message in the console log - it is appearing very frequently, but not a single actual symptom.

Correct me, if I'm wrong, but aren't these threads self-fulfilling: ie the only people that come here are people having problems. The only reason I knew to look in my console log was because I was reading reviews of the rMBP and saw references to freezes and ended up here. If I hadn't read the reviews or looked at my logs, I would be blissfully ignorant ... at least, so far.

I have phoned Apple technical support in Ireland. I gave them remote access to my computer and showed them the logs. I spoke to two technical advisors, one of then senior who gave me his direct number and personal work email. Neither of these guys - they said - had even heard of this problem and didn't know what the errors in the logs meant. I emailed them an captured image of my logs and they said they would get back to me tomorrow.

Of course, I could experience the dreaded freeze any minute, but so far nothing. I wonder if it is true that everyone is experiencing this problem. Surely tens of thousands of these units have shipped...

Anyhow, just one man's observations ...

You guys who say that Apple Support said they've not heard anything about it, trust me they will have heard plenty about it and will have been instructed to be as vague and evasive as possible until everyone high-up has sorted this out. It only takes one support person to make a bold statement regarding this balls-up and it will be quoted in all the tech media tabloids before you can say 'Robert's your father's brother'.

I have a 15" that I receieved two days ago.  So far, no freezes and I haven't heard of any other 15'' freezes.     Also: good color, no yellowing, and no image retention.    Give the similarities in the construction of the two computers, I would think that the problem should be easy to track down.

If you're referring to me saying "all units" that's because I meant all 13" rMBP Late 2013 units, which is what this thread is all about, the 15" doesn't have this problem hence there not being a thread for it.

    Hi everyone!

I have the new 15" MBPR and have a very similar problem! My MBPR quite often stops working... I can use the trackpad to move the cursor and also click for example to shut down the mbpr, but the system does not react anymore! For example this problem appeared today when i was watching some photos in my dopbox via website.

Anyone else with this problem at the 15"??? Already any News to this topic?

Honestly I didn't read all of the 79 pages....

i also spoke to two different apple care senior advisors two days ago. we did the same you did, capture log and so on. no reply. i am absolutely sure that apple is aware of this problem from the 1. day on. they are in trouble since the first ten customers explained this problem. now they let us hang and f*** arround just to make the right move.

That's a different issue mate, this issue is where you can't use the trackpad or mouse, they are both completely locked up. I'd probably start a fresh thread for that one pal.
