The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brigtness keys and volume control keys. i have use apple hardware test but no problem are found.

    Haven't had a freeze in 4 days (w /no USB devices).

All I did (4 days ago) was boot to the Safe mode once (boot while holding the Shift key down) then rebooted again normally.

I did it because I recalled on Windows PCs, this used to fix a lot of problems.

An update to my problem, which is similar in behavior (mouse and keyboard freezing- only hard reset fixes), but on a Haswell iMac running Mavericks.   Seems like the freezing is associated with these console messages:

    11/1/13 7:49:15.000 AM kernel[0]: vtd[0] fault: device 0:20:0 reason 0x6 R:0x1427000

    11/1/13 7:49:15.000 AM kernel[0]: USBF:    2374.932    AppleUSBXHCI::UIMCheckForTimeouts - HSE bit set:15 (1)

This seems to happen every time the system freezes.

It is starting to get a little voodoo-ic here again.

If you need your late 2013 rMBP 13" to work in a reliable way now, please plug in an USB 2 device. This will stop the freezes. It is proven by many many people and also there is clear evidence, since the kernel errors stop to show up under /var/log/system.log once an USB device is plugged in.

If you don't mind your rMBP to freeze from time to time (closing and reoping the lid usually helps) just leave it as it is and wait for Apple to deliver the fix.

All other methods (some quite down-to-earth, some quite voodoo-stuff) are most likely due to pure coincidence. We have had hundreds of cases in this thread already where people say "I did this and my MBP did not freeze for three days" and someone else posted just an hour later "I tried and my MBP just froze". Also, we had many people say, they haven't changed or done anything and their MBP did not freeze for three or four days - and then it did freeze again.

Plugging in an USB 2 device (such as an USB-mouse, an USB-memory-stick, etc.) is the only proven and reliable way to stop freezes at the moment.

If you're rather new here and want to have a quick overview, you can also read this summary: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5509561 (please do so before asking questions as most of them had been answered many times before in the past)

Having the same problem. Froze for about 5 times since i got it 3 days ago. I am using MBP Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013

Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

    Software  OS X 10.9

Is this problem only arising in this new haswell model or in other model as well? Or is there anything to do for the new OS mavericks?

a few older devices seem to be affected after updating to Mavericks as well. But this is unconfirmed.

You can help yourself and return the rMBP if you want and wait until all this is sorted out and then order a new one.

My unit just arrived off a slow boat from Shanghai.  Shiny new 13, 2.8, i7, 16, 512.

I had my memory stick in hand.

    Set-up was flawless and fast.

Plugged in the stick and away I went.  Business as usual, though faster and shinier.

Fortunately, the stick is purple so it provides a lovely accent.

Small price to pay for such a nice machine (no, I do not work for apple nor, unfortunately, do I own their stock.  I do however have two iMacs, a Black MacBook, and Apple TV.  I refuse to go iPhone, vastly preferring my S4. My family, though, also has iPads, iPhones and iPods).

I too am scrathing my head as to how this got past Apple though I've seen bigger promises from as-big companies with poorer results.  It's not about the mistakes they (or we) make but how they (and we) recover from them.  I'm more than willing to stand-by for a while, enjoying the many, many benefits of this machine while they attempt to make it right.  In the end, if they can't, I'm sure that we will all hold them accountable.  Until then, and in light of the many fabulous results and superior customer service that i've experienced in the past with this Company, I'm willing to let them try.

I have the same problem as described above: 13 inch Haswell rMBP 2.8i7. Writhing 24 hours of opening had frozen and couldn't use trackpad or keyboard, had to hold down power button to reset. I was in Pages at the time.

    Info for comparison:

My late 2013 BTO 13 / 2.8 / i7 / 16 / 1T Arrived Monday. Have used it extensivley from day one and I have yet to experience any freeze or issue with the Trackpad or Keyboard. I do (as most) have the Console error msgs, but no freezes (yet).  I am not using a USB device plugged in (on a regular basis) or anything else unique.
