I have had my my mbpr 4/128 since a week ago Tuesday. The first 2 days it hung. I have used a USB3 hard drive for time machine in the morning and then eject for the rest of the day. I have had no further hangs since then. My sys log though shows a constant flow of track pad errors.

I use this as background for what my evaluation is of this machine before I send it back for reimbursement.

I worked as a mechanical engineer for over 30 yrs and have used mostly UNIX and windows to run heavy duty

modeling and design programs. Of coarse never a problem with UNIX and all ways a problem with windows.

Unfortunately Mac machines were not supported by these design programs probably because not enough companies used Mac OS to make it cost effective for development although AutoCAD did try at one point and gave up.

My wife gave me a Ipad2 for Christmas 3 years ago and I was shocked she spent that kind of money for a toy.

That Ipad has been the most used and trustworthy device I have ever owned including my wife. So my old Hp

Pentium XP is on and has been on its last leg for a year and I told her I was so satisfied with the Ipad I going to wait for the new Mbp to come out and I going to get one even though it wasn't in the budget. And that leads me back to the beginning. I love this Machine. I was surprised at how easy the OS is to use and how blazing fast it is.

I will buy another one when the problems are fixed but I am going to get the 8/256 just to future proof incase I find some ram eating programs. I sorry to be so long winded but being retired I have that right. I turning this off and packing it up and will follow this thread until it is resolved

Let me add to this claim. I have the Macbook pro 13 haswell with 2.6 16Gb Ram and 512HD and have the same issue. It freezes about 1 to 2 times a day and on normal use. On different apps.

I been using the trick to get by... putting it to sleep for about 1min then re log in. This alternative seems to be working as a temp fix.

When it freezes, its the touch pad and the keyboard.. nothing works..

I've been waiting for the new Haswell MBP to come out to switch from PC, and was going to place order, until I saw reference to this issue on a few sites causing hesitation.

Just curious, after closing the screen and waiting the 1 minute, will you lose any work that you had not saved prior to the keyboard/trackpad freeze? And does just closing the screen always work to resolve, or is a re-boot required (assuming re-boot would cause work to be lost)?

I have the same set-up though with a 512.  I have the error messages and only gave it a chance to freeze-up 1x yesterday just for kicks.  Have had the USB stick in ever since.  No errors, no freezes.  Perhaps it's just a matter of time for you.  Seems very random.

Everyone is talking about the touchpad and keyboard are the one that freeze, does it mean the external mouse will work? Does this harm the other hardware?  Seems like everyone having this problem.

GoCu, there's always that risk though generally not.  I did lose my Citrix connection, though a quick re-log and I'm back to where I left off.  Just keep the USB plugged in and you wont even have the error messages let alone the freezes.

My MBP is the same as acme200.  13 inch, i7 2.8, 16gb, 1tb, build 13A2093.  No usb devices connected, only an Apple Magic Mouse via Bluetooth.  I have not had any freezes and my console log does not have any keyboard/trackpad usb port 5 errors.

CrazyUncleRR, if I'm not mistaken, you win the prize as you are the first who has not even so much as had the errors.  acme200 did report the errors, though no freeze.  Fascinating.  Throws another wrench into the software/firmware/hardware debate.

Yeah, not sure what I may have done different.  I'm new to the mac world, but it appears that the logs clear themselves after 2 days, so I may have missed them.

Do you have a unique user set up, or are you logging in as a guest? (Pure speculation by asking the question...find it interesting you're not seeing anything.)

He has a Magic Mouse connected via Bluetooth, I think this prevents the errors appearing in Console. When I connect my iPhone via Mobile Mouse, the errors also disappear.

And just to clarify, my logs are no longer showing the errors.  My original post noted I had received about a dozen of the errors during my initial setup, but have not received any errors in 2 days.  Sorry if I confused anyone.  I still have not experienced any trackpad/keyboard freezes.  I do have a usb2 thumb drive handy just in case though.

I have just been told by support that the latest Mavericks version is 13A603 and I should wipe my mbpr 13 i7 and install this.  Anyone else been told this, or already have this OS version and still having issues?

Maybe I'll try disconnecting my mouse tonight and see what happens.  In response to markers85, I am not logging in as a guest.

Could you disconnect your bluetooth mouse for a few minutes and check your logs?
