Yes, Oli, that's what I've read as well.
It's killing me, really, because I really wanted the 13" machine...it's just the perfect form factor (not to mention getting that extra battery life).
But after reading pretty much every page of this thread and hearing about all the different problems, I am starting to think that I will just have to get a 15". I really don't want to, but I don't see I have any other choice. It's a pity, because it's going to force me to change my work habits: no more writing on the couch, watching movies with the notebook on my lap, throwing it in a bag.
I suppose, on the bright side of it, buying the "ultimate" maxed-out version of the 15", I'll get a machine that will easily be able to edit my 40,000 photos and 100s of hours of videos. And I'll get a pretty sweet sound system as well.
But I'm feeling annoyed that I can't get the machine of my dreams...the 13" just doesn't seem reliable enough.
And I feel REALLY sad for all the 13" buyers here, especially those for whom this was their first Mac computer.
If it means anything to anyone here, I still believe that Apple makes the best consumer computers on the planet. And I say this from over 30 years' IT experience, starting with using stand-alone (non-network terminal) machines back in 1979. In fact, I'm sorry that I didn't convert to Macs until 2007, when I bought my first Mac: a MacBook Pro 17" with the highest res, RAM, and HD available at the time. I still have that machine, I've upgraded the HD 3x, I've dropped it (it took the blunt force trauma like a trooper—NO damage to ANY functionality!), had the graphics card replaced, upgraded to every new OS X release (except Mavericks), and the machine still kills it. That problem with the graphics card: it was a known issue, and so Apple replaced it for free (and would have even if I HADN'T had Apple Care).
