The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brigtness keys and volume control keys. i have use apple hardware test but no problem are found.

Glad this is sounding more like a software glitch in Mavericks. Rather than than a system recall for faulty hardware. There's always going to be issues after a new OS is released but I'm surprised this wasn't found in beta/pre release testing.

Come on a Apple, pull your finger out and get this sorted!!

I'd want it to be software related but is there any way to confirm this? I got less than 2 weeks to decide whether to take my machine back or not

Aren't there people who already did bootcamp their new haswell 13" rMBP with Windows 7 or 8?

If you dont experience any keyboard + trackpad issues on your bootcamp, cant we conclude then it's just software related?

I'm seeing some postings about OLDER 15" machines having the problem, but what I'd like to know is this: are the new Haswell 15" machines "safe" from having this problem? Because maybe I should just buy a 15" machine so I don't have the hassle.

Anyone here with a Haswell 15" machine having the problem?

If this was a hardware problem not that many people had the same problem. So yes it is a software problem and we have to wait for an update from apple to solve this. But I am sure when they read all this they will be acting fast sure when people already are returning there machines and think it is the hardware.

I am having the same issue with my macbook pro haswell 256/8. It froze on me twice since my first boot up on friday the 25th. I hope Apple resolves this before my 14 days of purchase is up. I also did the feedback form.

000Dany000: What do you mean? You fixed it by doing something else?

For people having this problem, I wonder if the power button still works.  When this problem once happened to me, the power button still worked.  I connected an external mouse, and was able to restart the Mac.

So, it might not actually be a freeze.  It might just be a keyboard and trackpad issue.

Ofcourse the powerbutton still worked. Just put it asleep with the powerbutton for a short while and back on and the keyboard and trackpad work again. At least that is what is working for me. I not want to suddenly shutdown the system which is bad for your device.

Mine 1st freeze was similar to what someone else said: a music file continued to play but the keyboard and mouse were unresponsive. Took a hard power down. Second time it resolved itself after about 5 min.

Mine is the 8G, 512G, 2.6 Mghz model.

This is my first Mac, a wanna-be PC convert. Now I'm having second thoughts, this is all eerily familiar. The fact that there has been no official response from Apple creeps me out. Shopping around for a new PC, considering a return... why pay more for the same?

Moosebear you made a wise desission to chose your mac. It is a great tool. Just for all of you just be patients, it is just few days this device is out and it is not even the device that is the problem. It is in the mavericks new osx. So no worry apple will come with some update to fix this. I am sure they are ware of this discussion here.

Btw.: does performing an SMC reset require recalibration of the battery?
