    never met the problem.

Happy I stumbled over this thread just seconds before I hit the order button to order a new 15 inch MBP. For sure, I won't order one now before this issue is solved – and not by a patch that degrades the overall performance.

It also makes me sad that

    • if you only build a limited number of laptop configurations
    • almost entirely control the software run on your hardware
    • build a laptop in which almost nothing can be replaced
    • sit on the biggest pile of money on the globe

you're unable to find issues like these before shipping.

At least, I hope it's that's what it is. The alternative is even worse. Perhaps the issue was spotted by QA before shipping, but there is something wrong in Apple's internal communication structures. Or even worse, perhaps they *did* know about the issue, everybody was aware of it, but they already decided they would fix these things later with an OS update, and perhaps the OS update required to deal with this is harder than they figured.

BTW, that also means that all of the benchmarks people are doing right now are basically worthless. If they do need to make significant changes to the OS, then all of those numbers might change.

People please read the title of this thread before responding!

Wilfredfromtricht your rant was completely unnecessary, the 15" rMBP is totally fine and DOES NOT have this same issue, go ahead and order one.

Me too. One week owned - only one freeze. 13 inch, same build, BTO. I would suggest that people hang on to their machines - based on hitory Apple will make this right even after the period expires, whether it's hardware or software-based. If you return it, no problem for Apple (other than bad PR). They will resell the returnd laptops as refurbished.

I love my machine, and hope they will fix the problem soon, but I think people are freaking out too much. We're early adopters, folks. There ae bound to be some bugs early on.

My 13 in has been returned, everyone at the store acted like they never heard of the problem.  All I wanted was for Apple to say sorry for the inconvenience and not one person at that store could do it, because there "isn't any known issues with the new 13's.

What a joke, thanks for nothing

Yeah they don't say sh*t at the stores really unless they are caught off guard and let it slip. I imagine that until apple announce a patch fix or a recall the staff will of been told to act as dumbfounded and evasive as is possible.

so folks just talkted to apple care ireland and explained them the keyboard / trackpad issues. i linked the senior advisor to the apple site were they released that the problem is known and will be patched with a software update. and surprise surprise - nobody knows about the freezing issues. lol

i told them that many customers are about to bring their retinas back cause at the moment nobody really knows whats going on.

i asked them about the possibility to extend the 14 days period or to give the people the apple care pack for free.

they told me they are just the support and arent able to do those things. i should call my apple store were i bought it. and as i wrote above the store told me they do not know about the problems and i have to contact apple care. lol

as far as there are no further problems showing up in the next few days or a massive hardware issue will be confirmed i keep my 13" and hope everything is going to be fixed. if there are really big hardware problems after the 14 day deadline then apple will do some special support and make sure all customers receive correct hardware.

Apple will not easily make an official response just because a 90+ pages thread in a forum..if they started, people will expect them to do the same thing in the future.

I believe this issue only happen to small amount of users, most of the 13 rMBP should be fine.

Can someone tell me how to look for the errors in console?

What do I do after I open console via spotlight?

Agreed that it is happening to a ton of users. I exchanged my 13" MBP Haswell for another one after experiencing the problem this week. The same problem still occurs for me on the brand new one that I picked up last night. Thinking I may have to simply return the system alltogether. My touchpad/keyboard became unresponsive at least once each of the days that I've owned it the past week.

Go to spotlight (click the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of your window) and type "Console."

Click the console, and from there you should see the USB error message, unless you have something plugged into your USB port.

    *edit*

Sorry, saw you got it open.

You can find the error message:

10/31/13 9:27:53.000 PM kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

Type: USB in the search bar and hit enter. You'll see that error.

And your sources and opinions are based on what?

Clearly not 96 pages of this thread...
