Q: New Retina Macbook pro 13 Haswell system hang/unresponsive

Hello Everyone.

The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brigtness keys and volume control keys. i have use apple hardware test but no problem are found.

Could anyone tell  me what is going on or having the same issue?

Just had my 2nd freeze.  Used my airmouse app on iPhone to take control of keyboard/trackpad, was going to do a restart but thought I'd have a look around first.  Nothing obvious in Console.  Went to System Preferences, Trackpad, tried ticking/unticking a few options to no avail.  I then clicked "Set Up Bluetooth Trackpad" and my keyboard/trackpad came back to life on the MBP.

Maybe it's bluetooth related?  I believe there's a 'wake on bluetooth' option for external keyboards etc.

Has anyone suffered the freeze with bluetooth off?

Yes, I turned off Bluetooth right after the initial setup and experienced the problem once yet. Got my MBP since yesterday and have used it approx. 5 hours in total.

Thanks Olly76, was just a thought, plus interesting that it seemed to bring my keyboard/trackpad back into play

It does not require any smc reset. Just push the power button once to put your device in sleep mode. After few seconds or some more time push it again to get it out of sleep mode and the keyboard and trackpad work again most of the time. Not push the powerbutton for longer time because it will shutdown your device right away what is not good for your system.

Pushing the power button once and putting it in sleep mode didn't work for me, tried it a few times, initially for a few seconds, then for a few minutes.

Thought i'd add my pain in here too. Brand new Macbook pro 13 inch 8/256 bought yesterday - have experienced the big freeze 4 times (keyboard and trackpad totally lock up). Closing the lid and waiting doesn't work for me, but the power button is still responsive so its a hard reboot each time it happens. Bluetooth is off by the way.

I spoke to apple support earlier who suggested an SMC reset. I think Ive done this (SHIFT+ALT+CTRL+POWER - then release - then power). Been running for about 3 hours since without any freezes but still seeing the same message appearing a few times every minute in the console: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2).

Hopefully apple will fix this soon. When you pay £1249, you dont really expect to keep losing your work.

(also worth nothing that apart from this freeze issue which is really frustrating, the new macbook pro is just awesome)

    Same issue here.

Using the new Macbook Pro since yesterday. Froze four times, very strange. It never happens on my new Macbook Air. I haven't installed the new OS on Air though. I assume it is a problem with Mavericks!

I just had the first crash on the exchange unit. I hope the software fix comes soon.

    Well here's a question.

Does anyone have a rMBP 13 that hasn't seen a lockup yet?

I experience the same problem as the rest of you: keyboard and trackboard has become unresponsive twice, and I had to force restart with the power button.

    13' MacBook Pro, 512GB/8GB ram.

    Bought yesterday, Oct 26

    I am very disappointed!

same happened to me, been using mbpr 13 haswell for some 6 hours, battery now at 20%. Closing opening lid or pressing power button did not help get response from trackpad and/or keyboard, only thing that helped is hard reset via holding power button

Also having the same problem. Another thing that happened to me last night was the curser disappeared. The trackpad worked and I could activate the screen but I just couldnt see the curser. Force quit worked in this instances. I have reported both these issues to Apple.
