The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brigtness keys and volume control keys. i have use apple hardware test but no problem are found.

Is there any news about apple's update?

I have returned my rmbp to apple yesterday and wait for a radical solution.

maybe coincidence, but only a few days ago keyboard and trackpad of my late2011 13"mbp with 10.6.8 got completely unresponsive, for the very first time since I bought it early 2012.

I then plugged external USB-keyboard/mouse and there the mbp worked as usual. after a restart everything went back to normal.

in case it makes a difference, my latest software updates were "java for 10.6 update 17" and "remote desktop client update 3.5.4".

Not a coincidence. Pluggin in a USB 1.0 or 2.0 device is a workaround for this problem and will "fix" it. So imo there is definitely no reason to return a macbook just because of something that can be fixed so easily for the time being until they release an update. For me, that would be just way too much hassle than it's worth.

I wondered about the coincidence, as mine is not a rMBP, but an "old" regular 13.3", with "old" system (but as uptodate as it gets, and I wondered whether one of the latest updates may play some role here) ...

Some users with older devices reported the freeze issue after they have updated to Mavericks.

When exactly did you update? Any driver update involved?

I'm still on snowleopard. and I did the mentioned software updates (java update 17 and RDC 3.5.4) october 24. 2013, and the "freeze" was last friday IIRC.

Perhaps some people are buying the new rMBP's  with Mavericks installed and then just transferring their data and apps across from their old computer.  They will need to go through the third party apps systematically updating them from the developers' websites.

Start with those apps running all the time in the background, like Flash, Java, anti-virus and Safari extensions and plugins.

Roaring Apps gives information on version compatibility:

I think we have to be careful a bit since a spontaneous freeze of trackpad and keyboard has been reorted by users over and over in the last years - regardless of machine or OS. At present the whole world has the current issue of 13" late 2013 in mind first but this might be a different story.

Here, I can´t see any direct link to the updates mentioned and the freeze. What makes me wonder anyway is that it could be fixed by the USB plugging. Should observe this...

13"/8G/256G 8 days old. When I, a single-task user, bought the laptop I saw the "keypad.. unresponsive" stuff in the Console even though the keypad still worked fine.  Later, as soon as my daughter (a heavy, multi-tasking user) grabbed the MBP, boom!... the keypad locked up.. I closed it up as suggested and when I opened it came back.  Since then I asked my daughter (will be owner) to plug an USB drive while using it.  I am not going to return or replace it since I believe that it could be a driver issue. But, I am still concerned that why 15" machine are ok if they use the same Mavericks.

I would like to share my experience with Late 2013 rMBP with Mavericks. I bought it on 25 Oct and recieved on 28 Oct. Since then my notebook is working without any issue if I am not using Delicious Libraray 2 third-party software. WIth Delicious Libraray, my notebooke gets freeze and then system becomes unresponsive as people reported.

Without Delicious Libraray, my notebook is working normally. I think it is definitely a software issue not the hardware. I'm sure in next update Apple will overcome from this radical problem.

I have been following this post regularly as I plan to buy the 13 inch MacBook Pro as soon as it is available in India(10-15 days) I read a post from the official rep of delicious library 2 and just wanted to share that she said,"Hi All,

I'm really sorry you're frusturated and I promise we're working on this.

We have had quite a few customers experience strange behavior under Mavericks and have reported it to Apple. We’re technically not allowed to talk on behalf of Apple but they said they have two known graphics driver bugs in Mavericks, but we believe one has already been fixed and will be in the next update, and we’re in the process of investigating a second one. Hopefully we can get this issue resolved soon, unfortunately in the meantime usability may be diminished or nonexistent. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for sticking with us."

This means that an update can soon be expected.

Just got my 13/16/512 rMBP, and it just froze after 2 hours of fiddling. I read this post before, so I didnt panick. But Its not good. Kinda like buying a Ferrari, and it goes out at the first red light. Great.

Ill try the USB workaround, and pray/wait for an update.

Mavericks causes graphics problems in many softwares just like Delicious Library 2 which causes freezing or irresponsive keyboards.

There is another example of DjvuReader 1.4.2 (https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/41506/djvureader). With this app, on scrolling texts do not come initially but after a moment they come out. But if we use DjvuReader 1.3.3, there is no problem in texts on scrolling and they come as should be.

I also noticed even if I arrange Applications by name yet after relogin some apps get arranged in irregular manner.

Mavericks is a new OS not a point update of an existing one, so third party apps will need updating. eg.
