Maybe for Apple this is not a big problem and they will release an update to fix it with 10.9.1... Or maybe they release a new firmware... But for sure it is Software, if it was an hardware issue why did they continue to sell and ship defected laptops? No, i don't think...

Well after following this thread continuously for the last week I can definitely confirm my original suspicion that this is happening to every Late 2013 13" rMBP machine shipped!

I've seen people come on here saying that theirs hasn't frozen up and then lo and behold a few days later they are back on here telling us that it has now frozen up.

I've seen lots of people chiming in with Late 2013 15" rMBP's to tell us that they've not had an issue which confirms the fact that if it wasn't happening to every 13" machine then at least one person would have stated that they've had it since the 23rd of October without one freeze up, but hey presto not a single person has been freeze-free!!

What an embarrassment this is Apple, at least give people a projected date for a software/firmware update, being silent is simply resulting in plenty of new-to-Mac customers returning their 13" rMBP never to buy another Mac.

According to the lead genius at my nearest Apple Store, resetting the SMC arbitrarily can harm the logic board. He advised me not to continue to do it after I told him that I used resetting the smc as a troubleshooting measure before bringing my Mac mini in for service. He did not explain why, but I took his word. Just FYI...

I love Mac products and will stick with them if they fix the latest issues, but I'm profoundly disappointed in them for not getting more bugs worked out before releasing their latest offering, and hope that quality control isn't slipping with Steve gone.  I'm one of the late 2013 MBP owners with freeze issues...

Well, I'm seriously debating whether or not to ship this back to Apple. System freezing up is the least of my problems. Connection to Internet *****, can't even open App Store or get iCloud working right, can access some website, but not others. This rMBP so far is a real dog. I absolutely LOVE it during the few short minutes when it's working, but that's rare now.

But here's the deal: I ordered a maxed out 13" with 1TB, max processor, and max memory. Yeah, I know, a whopping $2,500 for this puppy. So since it was a special order, does anyone know what i can expect from Apple re- returning a custom config machine like this?

I'm planning on waiting for these technical glitches to work themselves out before I jump back in and re-order a new one. But I'm just concerned that this unit might be a lemon in more ways than just the sw patch problems people are writing about here. It's truely an unusable boat anchor for me right now, and quite an expensive one at that.

Just received mine, 13 inch rMBP, 8GB, 256GB.

Migrated files from TM backup and after reboot I had a freeze when opening Safari.

I rang to Apple care (Spain) and told me they are absolutely aware of the problem, not only because of the reporting in here but also because of the phone calls they are receiving massively.

The advisor told me they are releasing a Mavericks upgrade NEXT WEEK since it is most likely a software issue. Then I told him I'm keeping the machine for about ten days and if there is no solution by then I'll be sadly returning and asking for a refund.

I really HOPE they do what they CLAIM.

Thanks everybody for reporting the issue, keep on doing it!

next week? (if its true) I cant undertand why they need about 2 weeks to fix a massive bug.

Four day old Macbook 13" Retina same issue. I have had around 6 lock ups.

There is a tech note about it now (from apple support):

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5296

Apple recommends closing the lid for a minute, then opening it again. At least its a work around, right now I've been holding down power and rebooting. I haven't tried this work around yet.

Because when they make a change they need to make sure it doesn't adversely affect other things. It needs to be tested.

Closing the lid for about 30 seconds works for me. I hope they get this fixed soon but I am also very happy with the machine otherwise.

This is voodoo.   I've been using my new 13" rMBP intensively, since getting it a few days ago, without any USB connection and without any freezes, except some secure link hanging up on me.  Neither have I had any freeze with my older MBP since Mavericks came along.

Certainly older versions of Flash and some other third party software, had bad effects, which will have been fixed by now.  That's why people need to update everything, preferably before migrating their user account.

I received my rMBP 13 2.8/16/1T on 28 Oct. I have yet to experience a freeze of any sort - The console errors Yes. But no freezes. No USB device or any other workaround - I just havnt had a lock up (yet).

I assume they start the counting from 30th October when admitted the issue after publishing the note. Not fair but that's it....

Anyway, 2 weeks is such a nice amount of time to fix it. I guess.
