Same here with the MacBook Pro 13 2013 model.  I have the 256gb version.  I've only used it a couple of days, even reformated and then reinstalled Mavericks but my new Mac has frozen on me twice in the last couple of hours.  What a drag.  I posted my info via the Apple feedback page.  Hopefully the patch is coming out soon.

Apple uses a special demo content, maybe that is the reason you can't see Problem??? Just an idea...

OK. What I mean is that maybe you didn't notice that is a USB device, it's just a laptop lock. Please make sure there's nothing connected to the 2 USB ports. As others said, maybe the OS X version on DEMO machines are special. The retail version should be build 13A2093. I will go for an investigation again if free.

Hi all. After my previous post,

My new Mac Book Pro crashed, or "froze", again yesterday evening. The worst thing is, I was watching my pictures on Iphoto. After restarting it, I received an error message concerning a database, and now the library of Iphoto is empty. I have no more pictures, or at least I can't find them anywhere.

If you consider that I uploaded 9 Gb of images just yesterday morning from an old and slow pc, thinking to use this new Mac as storage of my complete portfolio, you can imagine my confusion. 1229 Euro for this? What should I do now, wait or what?

holy cow same here. There are 119 pages of people reporting the same issue!

Power button is only thing that actually works.

So every time I met this problem, I long press the power button and make it restart. And then everything is okay.

Somtimes, if you wait for 10-15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

FYI, I tried resetting the SMC and have not had issues since then. Not sure if it's actually helpful or just coincidence

What a pity. I think you'd better return it ASAP. Data is much more important than a device.

Demo machines' settings seem to vary wildly between locations. In Madrid I've spotted machines showing the logs full of the **** we've been talking about, whereas in plenty of locations access to the console seems to have been restricted to some extent.

Last night I decided to return my unit (new freeze, this time on the welcome screen of iMovies). I'm on day 12 of the grace period and I'm not willing to give Apple the upper hand in this issue. Specially since last week I was asked by apple support for an €200 upfront payment in order to repair an Iphone 4s (still under guarantee) which shows the well known screen yelowing problem. The excuse? They claim the charge connector shows "physical damage". **** off!. As you may suppose I'm filing a formal complaint.

Today they will receive in return for their quality control and post sale service:

    1 rMBP 13"

    1 Magic Mouse

    1 Ipad Mini

    Which equates to €2,235 ($2,905)

And, of course, my next phone will not have a fruit on its back.

    Congrats!

    (P.S. We miss you Steve)

You don't need a hard reset.

Just put it in sleep mode for 20sec (until it fully goes to sleep) and after that when it comes back it should function normal again.

There is no any USB connected to the demo machine. and the DEMO machine isn't use guest account, its just a standard account.

There is no sign that part of the log is being hide... and i don't think they will do that too... no point to hide it as apple has no way to hide the error, everyone knows about it now.

so i don't udnerstand why all the demo rMBP has no errors.

Mine has error but no lock up yet.

All they need to do is deny access to /var/log/system.log

Next time you check for this on a demo machine, make sure in console on the left side, where it says "files" the file "system.log" is not gryed out. Weh had this topic quite a few times already.

Even I have the new Macbook pro retina 13 inch and my macbook also freezes randomly and then I need to long press the power key to turn it off. Desoite reinstalling the OS, I still have the same problem and the Apple care then advised me to visit the serrvice provider or the Apple Retail Store.

Any advices on what should I do ? This is the 1st time I have purchased a mac and if I face such problems in the beginning I might need to reconsider using it again in the future.
