Regarding your iPhoto library, do you have it listed in the Photos folder, even if you can't access it?  If so, make a backup copy of it and give the copy a different name.  Then hold the Opt+Cmd keys down while you open the iPhoto app.  There are several options for repairing the library.

If this does not work, there is an app called iPhoto Library Manager, which will create a new library and import the photos and meta data into it.

Yes, just bought and arrived, more than 2000 Euro. A 15'' Mac Book Pro Retina. Arrived yesterday. The very same freezes of my 13''.

Thank you indeed, I didn't know - I am new in the Mac world. I will remember your kindest suggestion and let's see what will happen again. What shocked me a little is, I was not using a "heavy" CPU program. Just scrolling through my own pictures.

this is getting ridiculous is'nt it? I have been waiting for this rMBP13 release since over a year. I did not buy it yet because of this issue. I m following this thread since the release date, and I caught myself browsing around for infos about notebooks by other companys. have'nt considered using a WIN machine in more than 7 years, but I need a functioning machine NOW.

What do you really think - ARE ALL RMBP LATE 2013 13" affected?

That's for sure. I have two other friends with the new 2013 13'' Mac Book Pros and our three devices freezed. Mine, two times. Therefore I'd say it's quite a common issue. As I wrote before I am also aware that such a problem happened on a 15'' machine, too.

I've heard about people going to the store to swap there 13" rMBP out 3 times! So they've had 4 rMBP 13" since the release date! Each machine having the same freeze problem, so if not all are affected (which I would bet they are) then I would guess it to be the vast majority.

Yes. Some people are not affected yet (meaning they have not experienced a freeze after a couple of days of usage) but they will. So far everyone who had reported "no freeze for 4 (or 5 or 6) days" came back later soon and reported "okay, now count me in as well".
I asked on an mac-user-forum to please all people with a 13" rMBP to tell me, whether they have freezes or not. 10 answered. By today, 8 have had freezes and the 2 others had often an USB device plugged in.

    Take it for granted
    a) it is a software problem, not a hardware problem

    b) all 13" Haswell rMBP are affected (because they have all the same build 13A2093 of Mavericks)

Sticking to the facts, all we can say for now is that there has not been a single 13" machine showing up without the issue. There have been freezes within minutes after initial use, but also freezes occuring just after several days of heavy usage.

And now we have a 15"-freezer as well??

@Varasc: checked log file for the wake-up message?

We have seen quite a few other (older) devices having the same issue, after upgrading to Mavericks.

By the way, which build do older devices show after Mavericks upgrade? 13A603?

There have been many others not affected, besides me, not that that makes it any nicer if you are....

The Mavericks GM release is 13A603.  The rMBP's have a different build numbers.  13A2093 is for the 13" rMBP.

This a screenshot of my 2010 13" MBP showing the same Mavericks build number as is on the Late 2013 rMBP.

I get the trackpad & keyboard errors in my 'Console' daily (seems like 3 a day then they clear themselves off each time), however NO freezes at all.

If you see that log only 3 times per day...is not an errore...its just the wake up of keyboard and trackpad (maybe you see that logs after coming back at computer after 5 mins of afk?).

If you see that log every 20 sec, than the OS is running bad(he dont know correctly when wake up or sleep the trackpad and keyboard.)

At the moment i ve build 2093, Using wireless keyboard and magic mouse and dont see error(think they have same role of USB stick that stop the crazy log in console)...just 2 or 3 times (Right) per day bit no freeze.
