Mavericks 10.9.1 is now going through widespread testing. Hopefully not much longer before the release.

This thread is mainly about the late2013 13 inch MacBook Pro Retina. Not about older devices. (Soem older devices sometimes freeze, too, but that's not the main topic here)

Yeah if you look back at that post of mine you will notice that I was answering ReMo77's question I just forgot to quote him/her (but have edited it so that the quote now shows). I've been following this thread for over a week now, I know what it's about

dont forget to run your image testing, cant await the result

I ran that test again. The one with black and white squares. That was okay, I couldn't see much ghosting.

But now I ran a different test - and this shows ghosting.
    Here it is:
    1. set desktop background to plain color - dark gray
    2. open up safari (other windows either closed or minimized, so it's just desktop and safari)
    3. resize safari window, so it's about 50% screensize. (to the left, right and bottom you should have some gray desktop-space viewable)
    4. open a white page (like google) in safari.
    5. set display brightness to five-below-maximum or higher (meaning brigther)
    6. wait for 10 to 15 minutes (be sure your rMBP does not go in sleep mode during that time)
    7. close safari window.
    8. you see the gray background and - in my case - for about 10 to 20 seconds a noticable ghosting image of the safari window.

But I am not sure, whether this is a bad display on my rMBP, or whether this is normal. Test for yourself and we will find out.

Btw.: If you think, this test is nonsense or non-realistic, I tell you how I found out: Instead of simply waiting in point 6.) I was surfing the web for maybe 20 minutes. I closed the browser and there it was ... so it's quite a realistic scenarion here. Of course, Safari could be any other program window ...

No, 13A603 is the general version and 13A2093 is for the late 2013 13" rMBP  (model number 11,1 with "Iris" graphics).

Hey guys, how many of you are going to return the new rmbp? Tomorrow is my last day for return. I'm still hesitating if I need to return it and wait until the issue is fixed or just wait for the patch. I had the freeze once everyday in average. I am so shocked that people in apple support kept saying it was the first time to hear this issue. Are they living in cave?

No, I have been suggested to wait until they'll fix the problem. If this won't happen within the next two weeks I'll think so.

Hi there. I have it in the back of my car. Tonight it will rest in the hands of Apple. Friday is day 14/14. A pity.

If it is just for the freezes, I would not return it.
No matter, what supporters say, the problem is well known by Apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5296 proves it quite well, no?) and it will in any case get fixed. Apple will not have their customers buy a MacBook Pro and then tell them just to live with the freezes. There will be a software fix and the freezes will stop.
So, if you are otherwise happy with your rMBP, I recommend to keep it. But of course, it's up to you.

Does anyone else experience little electrical shocks when a Mobilephone (Or smth which is charging while plugged via USB) is connected and you r touching the mbpr after doing a little break away from the mbpr?

Maybe it has smth todo with all the usb error freeze stuff?

Hey There, first of all i would like to say sorry cause of my bad English. I bought a new mbpr today, 13" 8gb ram 256 SSD. Maverics build:

    OS X 10.9 (13A2093)

Where can I see the error logs? There arent errorlogs in my Terminal.

use spotlight (CMD + Space) to search for "console", it should show up under programms. It might have a different name in your language, but still it should be found when searching for "console". Open that program. There you probably will find the message.

Or, in terminal, type the following:

    tail -n 40 /var/log/system.log

Both ways show the same content.

To add to this discussion again.

I returned my rMBP, 2.4GH, 8GB, 256SSD to the store after 4 days of use, due to it freezing roughly 2-3 times per day. The store were out of stock so I re-order through the online store.

I received my new Macbook, identical specs, last Friday and have been using every day with average usage, installed the same applications as before etc. I have had NO FREEZES at all since receiving the new machine, it runs the same set up as my previous machine (13A2093). I have not performed any of the "fixes" suggested ie. plugging in USB - have just used my machine in the same way as always.

I know this isn't conclusive in any way, I may just be extremely lucky to avoid it freezing, however if you are nearing the end of your 14 day return window I would strongly suggest exchanging for a new machine, as in my case it certainly appears to be hardware related. I know that my new machine shipped directly from Apple in China, so would have been unlikely to have been part of any initial batches.

Since last Friday I also dit not hav a freeze. Even longer in my case, I think since last wednesday. So I doubt that your computer is much different. Not untill you come up with some details of what might have changed.

The only thing I did was to safe boot. Even though that might seem to be magic mumbo. But it seems that performing a safe boot also resests some settings.

Personally I don't think the safe boot has anything to do with me being freeze-free. But it is always nice to perform some magic that you believe in. I think that your magic was to switch your computer. But mine was easier......

Have a lot of fun with your machine!
