In fact no freezes means nothing but luck unless the error logs mentioned before are no longer exist in the console. Have you checked your console logs?

The console logs don't necessarily tell you anything. Seeing the errors in the console log doesn't mean you have or will have the issue. Other errors can appear there all the time.

just did the oli.s display test, no ghosting or retention. i ran the test about 15 minutes with brightness 2 klicks under maximum.

but my screen suddenly got complete dark as i made sure that my energy settings dont stop the 15 minute testing.

looked like it was kind a unforced sleep mode in that moment. after using the trackpad the screen woke up and showed me my account site. crazy stuff but im happy not to see some display ghosting.

can anybody tell me, if ghosting appears - is it for the rest of my macbooks life or is is just some kind of issue that disappears after a few minutes ? thx

I called Apple Care and they recognize the issue but said it was with isolated units. They are preparing a replacement for me and I'll be exchanging the laptop later today. They made it pretty easy.

Tomorrow is also my last day, but i don't think that i give it back. I like so much my new rMBP, i waited one year to buy it...

I had only one freeze, during second day, after that i initialized SSD, reinstalled OS Mavericks from store and repaired permissions. Until now no freeze anymore, i didn't use usb or anything else, but i have a lot of error logs and i think that it can lock again...

    I tested my rMBP and:

    - No IR issue

    - No noise if you set very high Brightess on screen

    - No audio blocked when you disconnect headphones

    - No scratchs on aluminun case

    - No blinking keyboard illumination lightning

    - No WiFi issue

    - Very long duration battery

So i think that the only issue is the freezing but they are releasing an update. If we read all this thread, it is sure that you will never be happy with your new machine. Just wait an update and all will be perfect.

In my opinion Apple made 2 big mistakes:

    - QC Quality Control failed because they didn't see this stupid bug

    - Apple engineers are very busy with IPhone, IPad, iOS infact they release a lot of update very fast and they forgot that there is also a big business with iMac,Macbook etc... So Apple could release an update very fast !!!

So before you give your machine back think if it is really a good idea !!!

    Just my opinion

It might be more effective if a new discussion thread is opened for the ghosting problem, tests, and results and this thread is limited to the "Haswell system hang/unresponsive issue.

If you mean this error in the console:

06/11/2013 17:45:29.000 kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

Yes I have these lots, but still no issues.

Can someone also fill me in on this screen test and the issues identified, I have had a look through the previous posts but could not find it.

Just erased and re-installed the OS.  Will be taking the system back to the store today, on my 13th day of ownership.  I am not going to risk being the bag-holder on this device.  Locking systems deserve a hotfix, not a patch rolled into a general OS release, whenever that happens.

First Mac system ever.  Very bad taste in my mouth.  Hope Apple deigns to respond with a root cause analysis.

So I just received my 2,8/16/256 pro 13" retina today.

I was fairly confident that I would get the freezes, however installed bootcamp and everything I need...used it from 11 am to 6 pm, left it at the office...no freeze, I do however have the log entries that everyone else has.

I am pretty sure it is a software issue, you can't have such a huge batch of defects in hardware where atleast a firmware update or software update can't resolve it. If you return it you will still probably get a used machine (considering how many are returning their laptops) even if they are repackaged. If it is a HW defect you will see apple pull the machines and replace them, they will probably still make a profit from each and every machine anyhow looking at their volumes and the sales prices for these machines.

So keep in there and if you are afraid, tell them to start a support errand so that you have a record where you have clearly spoken to the support, get this in email format and you will be fine.

Do you want you macbook today or do u want it in 2 weeks?

I don't think Apple will sell you a used macbook as new, even if there have been way too many returned.

I believe the returned ones get sold under "refurbished".

Today I had again the freeze, it seems one per day. First one was in Safari and I thought It could be related to it. But today has been in Chrome. Starting to be fed up with this thing. Apple, FIX THIS!

I am having the exact same problem with my 13" Retina MBP (the 512GB model, 2.6 GHz). It happens when I'm in fullscreen mode. If memory serves correctly, it happened when I was browsing the web...has happened with both Safari and Chrome.
