Guys, today was my 14th day from the purchase.

Called Apple Care today, spoke with a senior tech advisor, and asked him if I should return it or not? He said that it's a known and emerging issue, there will be possibly a fix for it, but he would honestly advise me to return it ASAP, since there's a good chance it's a hardware issue.

To me it looks like software as well, but I did return it for a refund, since the store didn't have any 13" in stock (!!!).

I didn't want to return it at all, and was hoping for a fix, but after the call I jumped into my car and headed to the nearest store.

    Hope helps.

I have a feeling if the release a update to fix the issue, the battery time might decrease....

Until Apple gets this thing under control, I've read that having a USB 2.0 device plugged in prevents the issue.  I wonder if you plug one of those small profile USB flash drive into an open USB port would help?

I was excited to get my first MacBook ever, but in my first day of using it today--a new 13" retina--this total keyboard/trackpad freeze has happened twice, requiring a hard shutdown using the power button (which at least is one key that works when this happens). It's so depressing, especially after spending so much on it and anticipating it for so long...and hearing that others are getting multiple replacements that have the same problem. Let's hope Apple does something about this ASAP.

I just got mine today (i5, 512SSD,16GB) shipped from China and within 4 hours I had my first freeze. All I had done was downloaded the iWork apps, updates and a few other apps. I then plugged it in to a power source and within about an hour, the first freeze happened. I really hope it's an issue that can be resolved with an update. I'm going to wait as long as I can, but will return it before my 14 days are up.

It has to be a hardware issue. Im running Windows 7 via Bootcamp, and its still happening.

I made a Genius Bar appointment today (10 days since purchase of 13 inch Macbook Pro 256gb / 8RAM) and they said it was due to using Google Chrome. I told them about using Chrome for the Chromcast device and the guy got very upset talking about Google and walked away in the middle of my appointment.

Do you think I should return in the next 4 days? I would still want the same laptop (specs, etc).

But what if it were a firmware issue? Would the issue still persist while running Windows 7 via Bootcamp? I was told on the phone today that it was likely a "software or firmware issue" and that a fix was in the works.

I just got off the phone with them, He made me an appointment for Friday. He said "I strongly feel it's a hardware issue". I told him about running bootcamp, and  he said hearing that even made him more confident its a hardware issue.

I also bought an rMBP the day after it came out and it was hanging on me multiple times. I went to the genius bar all they did was a re-install but it continued to hang various times after that. I exchanged it a couple of days later and now i have an additional 14 days thinking maybe i recieved a dud however this one is also hanging on me and now the news about these widespread probs came into light with others ... good news is this new one has only done it once and maybe the update will come out before my 14 days and stay a fan of the rMBP

Apple, we need *ASAP* know if the problem is software of hardware related, I'm going away to a place that does not have Apple support and I need to know if a need to replace before this long trip.

Well, if it happens in bootcamp, it can be hardware or firmware problem....
