apple support told me that it is a software issue and that I would not need to go in for a exchange at present or in the future. don't know if i should take his word for it though. He clarified that it is not a hardware issue, but maybe it's just to quiet things down on their end.

    best.

This is all rather ridiculous. After everything about MacBooks being super reliable and stable, my machine has frozen three times now in the past three days, twice while I was using iMessage and Notes and once while I was reading a news website (non-video). That's it; I haven't installed anything or done anything intensive by far. Additionally, the brightness is not even at 50% and the battery seems to be draining incredibly fast -- I'm not watching movies, listening to music, or anything, just typing a Word document or a Note and the battery just drains (It's gone from 100% to 54% in the past 2 hours). I don't want to have to return this since I ordered it directly from Apple; I bought AppleCare. I really wish it would just work.

I'm really in a bind.  I'm at the 14th day and just don't know what to do.  Spoke to support who thought the issue would be resolved but I'm still just so nervous.  Can't tell if it's software or hardware...

I've just chat with support, they recommend me to ask to exchange to a new one but since I don't have enough time to check the new one because I'm going to travel to a non-apple support site so I'll ask to a refund

It happened me 4 times en 10 days and I don't know a way to reproduce the issue at-demand.

They say that it not known yet if it's a hardware or software related issue.

    It's apparently a hardware issue.

Just had it happen for the first time - doing nothing but browsing in Chrome. Had to do a hard reset with the power button held down to get it back. Ugh - that could have resulted in data loss if I'd had a document or something open and unsaved.

I'm not worried about Apple not fixing it, but this is really annoying bug for sure. I don't trust the machine for critical school work stuff etc now until they get the fix out.

from all the information i get so far, i have decided to return my macbook pro tomorrow, because I believe they can use an update to hide the error or compomise something like battery life to fix the problem. The real fix is get a new MBP from new batch after they fixed the problem.

Why is everyone returning them? Do you guys seriously think Apple can get away with not replacing our computers if it really is a hardware issue? There is no way they can screw people like that. The machine is warantied against defects for at least a year and this is very clearly one if it is indeed hardware related. This thread is 127 pages long and the issue's been reported by all the major tech sites - they can't sweep this under the rug. Relax.

I think only way to make apple fix this quickly is mass return of defective laptops. If they delay it, they will have to sell millions of refurb MBPs.

Indeed it is, especially because it says NOTHING of the freeze issue!

Simple, if they don't resolve this issue nobody will buy Apple products anymore... and it is impossible...

Why do they continue to ship defected products ? Because they know that it is not an hardware issue and with an update this bug can be fixed.

I have had two MBP 13 already and in both I have had the same problem. I am going to hope until the end of the 14 days of test to give back it if it has not been solved. My first experience with Apple is not being very pleasant.

Just wondering how much percentage of 15 rmbp has been affected by the "unresponsive" issue?

If this is software related,  15 should be involved. The exceptioncould be the energy saving system which could be tested by shutting that down.

Otherwise it would be hardware related.

It is my guess as a guy without much knowledge on computer.
