Q: New Retina Macbook pro 13 Haswell system hang/unresponsive

Hello Everyone.

I have just got my new macbook pro retina 13 Haswell (October Model). This is my second day of usage and i have encountered sudden system freeze for 2 times already. The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brigtness keys and volume control keys. i have use apple hardware test but no problem are found.

Could anyone tell  me what is going on or having the same issue?

I think you're probably OK, if not *they'll* send an EFI for those too.  There were people seeing it on their 15"s, maybe it hasn't quite bubbled up yet, give it another couple of days, and if you start seeing the same behavior.  Open a thread for the 15"ers.

Also a post-game review.  When you work in computer engineering doing h/w or s/w product development, you learn to be humble since you WILL BE HUMBLED on a regular basis.  I would like to see the trolls, handles begin with an S, grow a pair and apologize to the thread!

But why does the late 13 inch rMBP show these logs in the kernel while the late 15 inch rMBP doesn't? What's up with this?

Have you checked that the 15" doesn't show these logs? I mean do you have a 15" now to see that these logs aren't showing on there (and not one in an apple store as they are all on guest accounts)?

Reason I ask you to state this is because I have a mid 2010 MBP 13" and it shows the logs on there each day and as far I can tell these are meant to be showing and are nothing to worry about.

My bad, see I can admit when I'm wrong, I didn't know that Console apps messages log entries would not be visible to Guest.  Learned that today....

I'm doing a little 'burn in' and using the trackpad only this afternoon.  So far, so good; two hours so far and no freezes.  My 13" rMBP was 'freezing' within minutes before the flash update when using the trackpad.

I think this is still not right.

The keyboard/trackpad log message doesn't happen in 15 inch, air, imac using the same haswell cpu... why only 13 inch keep poping up? plus only 13 inch has the keyboard lockup issue, the message must in relate to the problem.

the macbook air haswell has been release a while a go and we didn't see many people talk about this special log message.

I still believe the 13 inch macbook pro has faulty part in it and apple tried to correct it using a software way instead of a call back, replacement...

if you can wait, wait for a month or two and then get the new batch.

Supreem Wen't to check in our local store, but they didn't use a guest account to sign in on the machine. Checked their logs (nothing on the side was greyed out so it's defenetly not a guest account) and it didn't contain anything about a wake up.

Altough I must admit I forgot to check if this was the hashwell version.

    You got very good point.

This problem is not fixed from its root!!

I also checked 15inch/ air/ imac, they all using haswell and don't have the log message!! and they are NOT using guest account!

Plus once USB pluged in the LOG is gone. How to explain that? The new EFI may just a software solution for a hardware fault!

Apple should really reply to this thread with decent explaination about what is really happening inside the 13 inch MBP!!!!

Glenndisimo Interesting to hear mate, my brother has the brand new full-fat 15" rMBP late 2013 and I'm seeing him tomorrow, so If he's got no objection I will have a look in the 'Console' and see if I can CMD+F any of the trackpad logs

All you guys who have installed the recent firmware update please report back over the next few days with any notice in performance changes, especially any people who had geekbenched their machine, do another geekbench and check the performance still remains the same etc

    Many Thanks to you all

Supreem I'm really eager to hear your findings. Best case scenario is that he's console show the same logs.

These speculations/theories/headaches could all be prevented if Apple just shared to us what is actually going on.
