I had sent my machine back a few days ago and decided to wait until the track pad problem was resolved to reorder.

So it sounds like there are no lock ups after the fix. I read a couple of threads from level 7 people that report MBA ,min macs and iMacs that use track pads show the kernel wake in their logs. My question is as yours, why when a usb2 is plugged in the kernel does not report?

    Potatohead_33,

    I believe you.

In fact, one of the main reasons why I exchanged from a 13 to 15inch was because I was noticing that if I didn't have a USB drive plugged in, the error was burning through the battery at a MUCH faster rate. After I left a USB drive plugged in and the log message went away, the battery life was on par if not better than the projected 9 hours.

I had posted a couple of messgas earlier in the forum about this issue and unfortunately no one had noticed/experienced it. Now I am thinking perhaps short battery life was another symptom of this trackpad/keyboard issue.

    P.S.

My 15inch was showing a bit under 11 hours of battery life under full charge. So 13 hours on the 13inch under light/no use is certainly possible

FYI, my late 2011 MBP shows the keyboard/trackpad logs from time to time since I upgraded to Mavericks. My wife uses it and I am out of town right now, but given that I don't have any freezes over the weekend, when I get home, I will even screenshot those nay sayers who are screaming the sky is falling.

You guys with the conspiracy theories are ridiculous. If you're going to play that game then why would the absence of the kernel wake log entries convince you of anything either? Apple could just hide those of course, masking the super dark secret "real issue" couldn't they?

You seriously believe they're trying to cover up some massive problem but forget to hide the proverbial smoking gun from you? After reading a 140+ page thread they left the supposed signature of the problem in the fix even though they obviously knew it was being brought up here over and over? That is absurd.

Today I got a refund of my rMBP 13", some hours after that I saw the update was available so I return to the 5av Store near Central Park in NYC and get another new unit and install the update, since them I don't get any trackpad/keyboard freeze.

I've commented with a Apple guy the entries in console at every time I use trackpad or keyboard and he told me that is normal... I not sure if that is ok, if this is a change in Mavericks or the update is just a workaround that only prevents the trackpad/keyboard enters in sleep mode but the battery usage seems to be the same than before the update.

Hi friends just see the apple update...it's not only for 13 inch but also for 15 inch....please see --supports-MacBook Pro-downloads in apple website..this prove this is not affected only in 13 inch...be calm this is not a hardware issue of specific model.these all are from maverics...with the next os update console log errors are also not there..

This is a hardware issue because:

    1. the log msg doesn't happen in MBA/iMAC/15 MBP, almost none.

    2. the log msg happen massively in 13 inch MBP ONLY.

    3. Pluged in USB the log entry gone.

    4. Apple senior advisor said the latest EFI is attempted to resolve the issue on software side, it just a workaround.

The log entry is unusual, you can not ignore it and say its a unique feature to 13 inch, OS X should not work that way, its a generic OS for apple computers.

Not true. My 13 inch late 2011 MBP gets them since the Mavericks upgrade.

Agree. I don't know why you guys are still debating on this. Multiple senior tech advisors said yesterday that it's a hardware issue. The one I spoke with checked the updates while on the phone for this thread under their 'Emerging issues' record. he quoted that it has been confirmed that it's a hardware issue, eventhough some kind of fix is coming. I asked about his honest opinion on what should I do. He said, definitely return it and wait a few months, and then he apologized for the inconvenience.

So get over it, and don't speculate, because it's getting really boring. Again, it has been confirmed in the past few days that it's hardware related. Now I hope it's not considered trolling for opening your eyes and telling the truth.

From your post, I assume you are in Australia, as am I.

Can I ask, whether you purchased your 13" rMPR from an Apple retail store or online?

I'm considering purchasing one from the Apple Store in Doncaster, Melbourne however, anticipate waiting a while for a new batch of stock to arrive.

    Thanks.

So what do you do about the Senior Apple advisor who told me that it was 100% confirmed that it was a software issue and definitely not hardware?

And then other people had the same thing done, much more than was done with those claiming they were told hardware.

And then, let's not count out the Senior Advisors who said they had NO knowledge of the event.

I, for one, will be happy if my computer trackpad and keyboard functions correctly. If the firmware update stops it from freezing, in my eyes, it is a fix. The speculation that there is a hardware issue, while may have some truth to it, I still fail to see the benefit of Apple trying to cover it up when later, there could be a huge blow up...

    LOL Senior advisers...

Often times they know nothing... I chatted with one last night and the guy only 'found out' about this after I sent the link to this forums. Then he said these 140+ pages of posts aren't by apple, and once I sent the link to the Apple KB page, did he acknowledge the problem... So as You should know, senior advisers don't know anything related to updates before they actually happen..

In terms of USB messages disappreaing while a USB device is plugged in, It's normal. The USB device is using the port so it needs to be active. Trackpad and keyboard might have a different configuration that allows them to go to sleep to conserve battery. Now maybe that wake up command wasn't functioning properly.... EFI might have fixed that.

I ahve had this computer for two weeks, 3 freezes and used to get at least 13 hrs of usage. Today I have gotten around 9 hrs (as advertised) with safari, Itunes, WIFI and preview open majority oif the time. I think this is normal.

I have not had a freeze yet, but the error/log is still there.
