Without software then all hardware is useless (broken??).  Software makes hardware work!

If this EFI patch was installed by Apple (or indeed part of the initial build) then we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

As for what is reported in the Console.....well frankly I couldn't give a rats left testicle.  There's all kinds of information popping up in there, some of it sounds like serious s**t but I guess it's pretty normal.

I believe Mavericks is constantly looking to make best use of RAM and also does a lot in the background to assist in making the battery last longer.  Maybe shutting down the keyboard/trackpad within a second or two of idleness is a fundamental part of this power saving process (why keep the keyboard/trackpad alive whilst watching a 120 minute movie for example).  Thus when the keyboard/trackpad is used the Console reports so.

i found out that some of the keyboard buttons are clattering and i just went to a local store to check out other macbook retinas. my keyboard feels completely different. it feels way more cheaper than the other macbook pros.

anybody has the same ? the arrow buttons at the buttom right soud really horrible.

hope this is normal and someone can give me short advice and i know off topic but maybe someone can tell me a story ... thx

Didn't you take your rMBP with you when you went to the store? Why not do so and let the guys at the store have a look? I would. Also let some other people compare it. Do they also notice a difference? You noticed this today for the first ime?
If other people confirm your keyboard feels different, I would tell the guys at the store to either fix this right now or to give me a new rMBP right now. I wouldn't be much worried about the 14 day period. If it's badly assembled, they have to fix it.

system been up for more than 15hrs now since updating the EFI. No usb's plugged in and have not gotten a unresponsive keyboard +trackpad. Usually by now i would have encountered 1-2 in that timeframe already.

i went to media markt dude would have been a crazy action to bring my apple store macbook to that store just to compare the keyboard. i bought mine at munich store and i live next to the alps. 50 km away from all trouble. maybe thats why i decided to keep mine. faulty chipsets, ghosting screen, crazy trolly and now the keyboard.

there is always a reason to bring stuff back to the shops.

for me it is quite hard to check out everything with my macbook cause it is my first one. and i always had a wow feeling when i touched any macbook keyboard at a store the last few years. now i have a mac and the keyboard gives me really no wow. check out yours, how are the arrow buttons ? feels cheap and clacky ? thx

I have noticed about this problem yesterday. Finally I decide to buy rmbp 13" just 3 hours ago.

My conclude for this problem is you all right problem is hardware and software include design too.

Apple want to save more power by do more sleep in hardware and software design but some hardware design might have bug to wake up system might unstable signel power not fully design wrong because it not happen everytime .

So apple apply this fix to roll back to normal technic as old macbook pro.

This is my first post as I am app developer and I also design hardware before.

So you all just miss something for advance power save technical but you did not buy broken macbook pro.

So please enjoy not perfect life!!!

I've been considering the 13" pro (8gig, 256gig, i5) but have been waiting for this trackpad/keyboard issue to be teased out before purchasing. I've dilligently read every single post in this thread :-)

Obviously a fix has been put out by apple and the feedback seems good from a number of people who have posted in this forum.

I'm particularly interested in feedback on battery life after installing the fix. Could people who have installed apple's fix please provide some informed (through their own testing/usage) information on how battery life is looking after installing the fix please?

I'm also concerned about reports of "burn in" / "image retention" / "ghosting" on previous retina displays but haven't been able to find much on this for the current haswell retina displays. From what I have read, it was LG displays having the problem (as opposed to samsung displays). Can anyone provide any information and/or their own experiences regarding this? And I'm also wondering if current haswell 13" pros still come with both LG and Samsung displays.. ?

    Thanks

    Regards

Hard topic to talk about from far away.
I can not really feel a real difference between arrow keys and the other ones.

I'd take my rMBP tomorrow and have a nice shopping tour to Munich and I'd connect that with a visit to the Apple store. If you tell them, that obviously this keyboard is broken and you are really disappointed by your first Laptop from Apple and so on and on ... They might simply give you a new one. And I'd take that, no matter whether yours is fine, or not. Simply because it will make you feel better.
If they offer to keep it there and let the tech guys have a look, you can decide about that still later. In Europe you have enough time to get stuff fixed.
If it is really as bad as you describe it, I think they will replace your device.

Did not fully understand the broken English, but it seems like it safe to buy now.

Sorry to say, but I do not have a clue at all. Not even a guess. (I trust Apple though, they put in the right type of RAM. LOL)

Some mighty hardware engineer  from Apple might soon tell us more about this mystery.
