Hey guys, just updated the EFI - Apple released the update to fix the unresponsive trackpad (and a mail stability update), let see if it fixes it but I'm sure it should be sorted now! Will report back in a few days...

    sTronic, Did you happen to notice that the messages with the same timestamp from Oli's log that you are so concerned about are for TWO DIFFERENT PORTS? My guess is that one port is for the trackpad and one port is for the keyboard in that version of the Macbook. But that is only a guess from a first time Macbook user. :-}

this is because your power management for USB is F*ked. bring it to apple store plug it into their 15 inch or MBA, it will works. 13 inch USB power control is faulty.

I think that you have not idea about what is a IC (Integrated Circuit) and you have not idea about what is a Power Saving Management...

Why the **** do you keep going on and on? Apple fixed the issue. If the keyboard/trackpad issues are gone like everybody is saying, that would mean the issues are gone, no?

Please, Stop causing turmoil here. If you don't like it, return it for a full refund and buy yourself a nice Windows machine. There are plenty out there. Nobody what's to listen to you.

Yes APPL, ditto to what you posted.  My handle changed, and will change again soon, very soon.  I think you know who this is, click the avatar.  There's is a software problem with this Mac user, it's referred to as an issue external to the keyboard, aka a short between the operator's ears!  Some of these people are just profoundly dumb; they make a bag of hammers, look like AI.

I had the same problem (hanging at the create a computer account screen) with my new MBR 13".  Worked with Apple, they even sent me a new macbook, same problem.  Turns out, all I had to do was turn off wifi and everything worked fine.  Then afterwards, attach to wifi and put in my icloud and itunes credentials.  The tech suspect that my Verizon DSL was blocking a port / protocol causing the hang.

It fixes the problem, many here have been running since it came out at ~Noon PST yesterday.  It fixes the problem, ignore the trolls talking out their butts about console logs shown in the Console app, (/var/log/system.log, which nearly every other *NIX calls /var/log/messages); they know not of what they speak!  If your 13" rMBP freezes again, after you flash it with the FIRMWARE update, take it back immediately.

Maybe we should make an autoresponder:

    1. Yes, the update is out. You can get it through the App Store.
    2. Yes, it very likely fixes the problem as nobody has reported a "normal" freeze after updating the EFI
    3. Yes, the kernel messages still appear in the log. It's not an error, it is just an informational message.
    4. Ignore the kernel message, sit back, relax and enjoy your beautiful device.
    5. Yes, this sTronic guy is somewhat out of bounds. We all don't know what he has been eating, drinking or smoking. (But it has to be strong stuff)
    6. Yes, all is good. Seriously.
    7. Yes, the kernel messages on the console are okay. They do not indicate an error. We said that before, remember?

Oli.S72, don't mind sTronic. But it would be interesting to know how often you get the log events with your older computer? Do you get them always when touching it after a few second pause. Or less often? Can you figure out what situation causes the events?

And there is nothing odd that you get always 2 events: As can be clearly seen from the log: the other is form hub and the other is from the keyboard itself.

My thoughts... as someone still considering whether or not to buy this 13"...

I am still "concerned" about the "verbose" (as one of the people - ipadscrewdagain - put it) display of system messages in the logfile. I believe, from my memory of all the posts in this forum (I've read every one of them) that prior to the EFI update these messages were not occurring every time the keyboard/trackpad is used. While it may be nothing to worry about, I think it still warrants some consideration and explanation.

I'm definitely no expert on apple computers as this is the first time in the last 10 years I've considered purchasing one. However the very wording of the message suggests that every time you stop using the trackpad/keyboard it puts into a "sleep" state immediately, hence the message saying "may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup" (interesting use of the word "may" too by the way, as it implies ambiguity).

I'm curious to know (but acknowledge, as someone else suggested, that this sort of information may not be ascertainable to the general populace) the "mechanics" or "technical details" of the EFI update and how it fixes the problem. For example, prior to the EFI update, did the keyboard/trackpad go into a sleep state IMMEDIATELY after it stopped being used (i.e. as suggested by multiple system log messages within the same second as one user posted). This sort of information may be beyond what a "normal" person needs to worry about but as someone with an enquiring and technical mindset I personally am interested.

While there may be nothing to worry about, I certainly don't see any harm in waiting for a new "batch" to be manufactured/assembled (although of course, as someone noted, it's probably hard if not impossible to ascertain when new batches are manufactured). A luxury not everyone can afford but personally I think i'll be waiting a bit before purchasing in the hope that some further information may come to light.

Also still concerned about things I've read about "ghosting" / "image retention" on previous 13" retina macbook pros - as I mentioned in a previous post that nobody has responded to or provided any info about Can anyone comment on this with regards to the 13" haswell macbook pros? And as I also previously asked, are the displays still made by both LG and Samsung?
