Well I installed the EFI update yesterday. 24 hours later I've just had another freeze up.

The console is full of these messages:

10/11/2013 9:17:50.000 pm kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

Obviously only one of these was associated with the freeze up but now I'm seeing 20 to 40 over a ten minute period although I've not had any further freezes in that time period.

    Anyone else seeing this?

Well I'm not returning mine because of the EFI issue, that was at least fixed; so the most basic function works.  Congratulations Apple!  I'm returing mine due to the unstable OS, Networking, and application functions; core functionalities have declined in these products over the past several years, and I'm convinced it's due to hiring practices that have evolved over the past 5-10 years.

I'm returning mine due to WIFI dropouts (connection still there, but no data gets sent or received, my MBA sitting right next to it on the table and doing fine) and image retention on the display.

But I do give Apple another chance. My exchange device is in production already. I'll see if they do better this time. If not, I'm not sure what I will do. I'm really really satisfied with my 3 year old MBA, so a Haswell MBA could be an option as well ...

I had the same problem (Wi-Fi) as you with the same stopping and no data pass through with my new late 13 inch 2013 rMBP 4/128. I also had the same symptom on two iPhones, an iPad and an Apple TV. Two other PCs in the house were fine as well as an older (late 2010) 13 MBP.

I had a 6 year old ZyXEL router that I replaced with a new (6th gen) AirPort Extreme and now all is well. All devices worrk great with no data stopping.

I've been waiting to buy the new rmbp 13" for the last four months but now I don't know. This would be my first mac and really wanted to make the change after many many years with windows.

Best would be to wait for a month or two?? get the OS stabilized? don't know, the idea of buying a computer with a possible faulty display or other hardware does not sound attractive at all.

I'm in the same boat, trying to decide whether the MacBook Pro is worth it over a windows device with similar specs. The samsung ativ book 9 plus is a front runner for me too but there are a few drawbacks - the 4GB memory and 128GB SSD in the current model don't seem very future-proof (an 8GB / 256GB option will be coming on the market soon, but it's much more expensive than it's Mac counterpart) the graphics card is Intel 4400 while the Mac has Intel 5000, the processor is slower and it has less ports. So looking at specs alone the Mac is the winner (the touch screen is just meh for me) but with the wifi connectivity issues, screen issues and various maverics issues (overwriting data on an external HD?!) none of which are an issue on the Samsung it's not so simple.

I researched for many computers and honestly have to say that there are similar products but the rmbp still comes out as a winner. The price also starts to be the same at this level. And the fact that the new computers have w8 is an issue for me, don't like it at all.

The one that seems to be a good match is the Razer Blade 14". It looks exactly as the rmbp but in black. I would like to try it but is not available where I'm living at the moment. As the others, it comes with w8.

By the way, touch screen on a laptop are a no go for me.

I also am waiting to buy my first mbp, I was shocked to come onto the forum and find so many issues with it, especially after the mba having lots of wifi issues when it was released earlier this year that still dont seem to be resolved.  I too dislike windows 8 so much that I really want to move to an apple computer.

There mainly seems to be problems with freezing and ghosting issues if I have read the forums correctly. Also I read they are still using screens from 2012, how is that so?

So I am not sure is it best to wait or just go ahead and buy. What would waiting achieve if it is a software issue they will sort it out eventually? or is there hardware issues too?

the freezing is resolved by firmwareupdate last week. http://www.macrumors.com/2013/11/07/apple-releases-fix-for-13-inch-retina-macboo k-pro-keyboardtrackpad-issues/

the image retention is rare as i can see. so i won't bother over that.

also it is likely that only poeple with problems write about it and people without seem to be quiet.

i own a mbp since mid2010 and had not any problems with it. my win7 pc failed over 20 times in this period while i was writung my bachelor thesis.

I don't know why so many people are complaining.

If you buy a pc/laptop with Windows everybody accept that there are bugs/issues and that they need to be fixt.

Do you realy think that apple make products without bug's, please people snap out of your dreams.

If you don't like bug', buy pen and paper.

    look on macrumors.com!!!

the overwriting problems are from third party software. it is not osx. it is a software from western digital.

    Hi patty2shoes

I am also in Australia trying to decide when to buy a Haswell 13" rMBP...?  Although the freezing issue has now been resolved with the EFI update, is your console still full of the following messages (or have they also reduced?):

10/11/2013 9:17:50.000 pm kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

Have you experienced any other problems / issues that other users have reported?  Screen image retention, for example?

    Thanks.
