Apple ... said they are working on it and ... know about the problem of post update freezing

I find tanker177's report extremely disturbing. Equipment should NOT freeze, hang, or reboot on more than an extremely intermittant basis. I converted from Windows machines and software in 2007, have spent probably $30,000 on hardware, software, and media since then, and I find this trend of Apple gear manufacturing quality getting worse and worse every year very, very upsetting. And now one of my devices (an iPad 3) regularly reboots itself 1x–3x/day since the iOS 7 upgrade.

I have been reading threads on the problems with the new rMBPs since the day it became available. I really wanted one of these machines and was completely committed to getting one, but I have a really bad taste in my mouth now after reading all the horror stories in so many different threads on so many different sites.

I purchased a MacBook Pro 15" at the end of Oct.  It had similar hang problems.  The Migration Assistant would hang and it did not transfer data as it was supposed to.  Bootcamp did not work properly and gave a partition formatting error.  The same Windows 8 DVD installed properly on Parallels Desktop.  I ended up returning the laptop.  I just purchased another one hoping the problems were addressed, although it is possible I did so too early.  I am keeping my fingers crossed.  I really believe Apple released the hardware/software before it was ready. This is my 1st Mac and I am disappointed.

I returned my 13" rMBP 14 days after the purchase. The EFI Fix came out the next day, but I'm glad I got rid of it.

Just to give you guys an idea on how critical these freezes are, or in general any type of freeze on a MBP, caused by Chrome or any 3rd party software: my late 2007 MBP froze twice in 6 years with heavy usage. TWICE! Both times due to a faulty Logitech driver, and not due to OS X problems.

Hearing these freezes that occur on a daily basis with the new MBPs, because of the keyboard, Chrome, USB stick, etc, just makes me really sad.

In my opinion, any type of freeze on a MBP with OS X is considered critical and Apple just shouldn't let this happen

Where are the good old days Steve?

I talked with Apple Customer Center, and he asked me to do the following

Simply performing a Safe Boot may resolve this issue.

To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), follow these steps.

Be sure your Mac is shut down. Press the power button. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear). After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.

To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without holding any keys during startup.

I did that, after reboot, I try to avoid google chrome for few days (falsh plugin is still uninstalled) - let's see if this is going to make any difference

I just tried this. When I entered safe mood the progress bar came up and then my mac froze again. It then just turned off and now whenever I try to turn it on normally the apple logo comes up and loads for a while, my mac then turns off!

Now I can't get my macbook to turn on at all :(

...When the new 2013 (Haswell) Macbook pro 13" was released, I convinced two of my friends to switch to Mac from Windows, and we each purchased one (3 laptops).  Imagine how I feel now, every time their laptop freezes!!!

I based my recommendation on my experiance with a 2012 Macbook Air I own, which I think is an awesome system.

APPLE please fix (really fix) the lock-up / freeze problem on the 2013 haswell 13" Macbook pro!!!!

As of today Nov 20, 2013, this issue is still happening to me, my two friends and many other owners (even after the efi update)!!!!

For all still having the issue, please make sure you continue to call Apple Support.  Its my understanding that they rarely (if ever) look at the forums.  Expressing frustration here will help you vent, but not much else.  We need to keep it on Apple's radar

I have called Apple several times on an existing MacBook pro order and they claim to be unaware of many of the problems.  I am wondering if I should cancel.

I say we tweet about this, facebook about this, get this viral, this is the only way to get Apple notice now.  Apple is becoming the next Microsoft.

I may have been lucky, but I have never had this level of problems with the many Windows based machines that I have purchased. Maybe Apple becoming the next Microsoft would be a good thing :-)

I've had my 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro since Friday. I haven't ONCE had any freeze/unresponsive issue at all, and I'm on it all the time. I don't use a USB mouse or flashdrive, by the way.

OK, today is the last day of the 2-week return window. I am on my 3rd Haswell 13" rMBP (8GB, 256KB, i5). I exchanged first two at the Palo Alto store in CA because of the freezing problem. My 3rd one froze once before the relase of the EFI fix. After installing the EFI fix, I have not had a single occurance of the freezing problem. I will keep this rMBP because it works and I can't afford to waste any more time on worrying about the possibility of the freezing issue to resurface.

Oli, are you still on this thread? Have you kept, exchanged, or returned your rMBP?

I don't use Chrome as my default browser, I use Safari. I've never been a big fan of Chrome. I did install Flash from that link, but I haven't had any problems at all. I forgot to add that I also did install the EFI update the day of my purchase, and I haven't had any freezes. I've been following this thread for almost a month. I looked in my console and constantly get this message:

"11/20/13 12:33:38.000 PM kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)"

What I'd like to know is, why are people going nuts about this message? This hasn't effected me or my user experience at all. I swear, some people are trolls pointing out every supposed "flaw."
