I'm about three weeks in to my brand new MacBook Pro retina 13" and on the second week I was browsing the internet when all of a sudden my MacBook just restarted on its own. After it powered back up it asked me to send a report errror to Apple and I moved on. Now on the third week (about five minutes ago) my MacBook's trackpad and keyboard were unresponsive, although the youtube video I was watching was still playing. I had to hold down the power button to restart but it wasn't working until I plugged in the charger and pressed the power button again. It's kind of annoying that I spent so much money on a computer that does this on the first couple of weeks of owning it. I hope it doesn't continue. If anyone found a fix or anyting please let me know. Thanks.

I'm having two late 2013 rMBP's in my household (me and my spouse) and we both experience the keyboard and trackpad freeze issues frequently, even more since 10.9.2. --> This is really annoying, especially as you cannot gracefully shutdown anymore!

I didn't expect such a behaviour from my mac

    Hi,

    Have you tried:

    - Booting in safe mode, and then rebooting as normal?

    - Running a cleaning utility such as Onyx or Cocktail to check file permissions, daily / weekly / monthly jobs, and clear out caches?

None of these things are going to address a problem in the OS, but they might clear up lingering associated problems from crashes etc. Any time you get a machine crash, or have to do a hard power off, you should run the maintenance tasks above.

Lastly, have you tried running with a USB device plugged in? That seems to have stopped the problem for a lot of people.

    Regards

    Darren.

    Dear Darren,

    Thx for your quick reply!

I did clean up registry etc. and repaired permissions without a (positive) effect.

I didn't try the safe mode booting nor the USB device trick. I will try that, however, I can not always have a USB device plugged ....

(And I would not consider this as a solution rather a workaraound --> Nevertheless, I would be very happy if Apple would work on the issue and deliver a consistent solution (not like the EFI 1.3 update that didn't solve the issue))

Guys I'm watching this thread from the start and I'm just O_O about it all.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing these issues...

My rMBP 13'' have never had this issue, it's just... flawless (well except several not so annoying glitches like sound disappearing after wakeup and third party software bugs).

Good luck, and have it fixed soon.

Guys, I had this issue as well at the end of last year when I purchased a late 2013 rMBP. I brought it back after 2 weeks in exchange for my money, bc back then even the Apple senior tech advisor said that it's too risky for me to keep this laptop.

Anyway, during those 2 weeks I've been using the Logmein app on my iPad, through which I was able to control my laptop when the keyboard/trackpad froze. It's a handy app, I think it's free, and you can put your laptops to sleep, leave it for a few minutes, wake it up and works like charm.

Of course I know it's a very frustrating process for a 1,5K laptop, but it's still better than losing your personal data, after which going through recovery steps.

Hope this helps and hope Apple will fix this problem soon...but to be honest, at this point, I doubt it.

I bought my Macbook Pro Retina one month ago. It freezed two times, and I even recorded a video.

I went to the representation of Apple in Chile (here you can't find an Apple Store), and they told me that it was a software problem. I restored all the system and it freezed again.

I took it to the service, and they don't believe me, because they say that they did many test with the hardware and everything is ok.

I saw many videos with the same problem in Youtube. It really ***** cause I expended $2000 in something that doesn't work good and I can't enjoy as I should.

I'm very disappointed, because it seems that I can't do more things to get my money back.

    Apple ***** in Chile.

i dont know whats wrong with your machines but after the efi update and the mavericks update at the latest, my machine is running smoothly. i would nt use usb or firewire audiocards with it, but there are def. no hangs!

one thing you should nt do is using chrome!

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13" and (as most people) have this problem too. After reading this and other discussions it seems like it is a hardware issue. Since it only occurs on the 13" Models.

But I still hope this issue gets solved... its very annoying.

If you use Chrome it will hang? If that's the case, your machine is still fukced. It's not the software. That shouldn't be able to make the OS crash and burn.

No, my 15" late 2013 MBPr also freezes.

OK then it has something to do with the MBPr from late 2013 because the ones before (well at least the 15 inch) worked well.

But the point I am trying to tell, is that it has something to do with the hardware because no update fixed it with me.

efi update ? 10.9.1 ? the one that causes those troubles ??

and i use my mac for word, pwp, music and videos, 2000€ for a non working audiocard / usb device, i def. not agree with you...

Just got Apple France at phone yesterday, the guy told me to clean install without system prefs, wich i did earlier today, and same things happend. Moreover, it happened even if i didnt get my stuff back from time machine. Wich means with a clean OS it's still have trouble...

In no echec mode (dunno in english sry), it's seems that we have way less freez than in normal mode, but *** with a 2000€ hardware...

I never had those kind of issue on macs, and i'm on it since a long time. This no reply, no clue, nothing to do is rly annoying 190 topic's pages and still no informations...

    APPLE ARE U HERE ?!

Don't use Chrome? Is this becoming Microsoft or what?!

    Are $2000! It's not a cheap computer.

It is like buying a Ferrari but, 'Hey! You can't use it in the highway!'

Nope, that's not a real solution.

And can't be a software issue, because we have 186 pages of discussion and many cases here and over other sites. This is a hardware problem, and Apple must answer.

Is there any other way to contact them? Do they really care about this forum?

I think Apple should admit it finally that it's their hardware issue and recall/replace every purchased and faulty hardware, just like every other major brand does that cares just a bit about their customer and their loyalty.

After being a mac user for more than 8 years, I'm most probably abandoning the system and Apple as a whole.

It's just ridiculous and pathetic the fact that they are totally ignoring this issue!
