The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brigtness keys and volume control keys. i have use apple hardware test but no problem are found.

Using Safari here.  Same experience as most others.  The issue has happened multiple times over 2 days of ownership, each time I was doing something different (in terms of application use).

As an aside, I have a 2012 15" rMBP that has run every developer build of Mavericks and now runs 10.9 (13A603) and has never exhibited this issue.

That, to me, suggests that it's either 1) an issue unique to the new processor line or 2) an issue with the combination of Mavericks and the new processor.

I've reverted back to using my 15" rMBP for now and will keep an eye on this thread whilst deciding whether to return the 13".  Disappointing.

Bought the 13", 8gb, 256gb MacBook Pro on Friday and experienced about 10 freezes already whilst doing various things, internet browsing, documents for work, email etc. Trackpad & keyboard completely freeze at random while everything seems to run okay in the background, only solved by forcing a shut down and starting up again.

I'm in the market for a new 13" Retina model and am following this discussion with interest.  Thanks to all.

I have one question though (I'm only about 2/3 of the way through the discussion so apologies if it's somewhere above):  Has anyone tried plugging in an external keyboard and mouse combo during the freeze to see if that works?  I have - coincidentally - an older black MacBook running 10.7.5 that I bought used; it's great except that from time to time I get an identical keyboard / trackpad freeze.  I have always suspected that it's heat-related, and specific to this unit (I have an identical model at home that's fine) but like the problem discussed here, a brief sleep always solves the problem; but also when I can't wait even that long, I can resort to the external keyboard / mouse combo and keep working.

I offer it as a suggestion to anyone who might find it useful, and also to tease out one more data point on this problem.

    Hi

for me it looks like a Mavericks issue. have the same on a MBP late 2008 which worked perfectly on 10.8.5. untill i upgraded to Mavericks.

I encountered this freeze on my iMac with plugged in USB keyboard and mouse.

Blamed USB, switched to bluetooth keyboard and that's frozen, and my trackpad, too.

During the freeze the computer is still running, all inputs are dead.

Just a thought, but has anyone tried remoting into the machine (via VNC, another Mac, Remote Desktop, or an iOS app) to see if you can recover and shut down properly at least?  I'll try this next time it happens.  It's not a fix but it might avoid losing any work by a forced shutdown!

I am have had the same problem over the last few days.  256 GB with 8 ram.  Once in Mail and twice in safari I think. Same as others, all buttons are unresponsive except for the power button.  Weird.

I also had the same problem, just got my new MBP with 256G 8GMemory. It happens more frequently with safari, dont know why, maybe a coincidence. but hopefully apple with come up with an answer soon

A bit of good news.  I can confirm that remoting into the machine DOES work and allows you to shut down the machine.  Appreciate that this is not a fix, and many won't have a spare device lying around for this... but if you do, it works.  I tested using Screens app on iPad.  It sadly doesn't get the trackpad or keyboard responding again, so you'll have to shutdown and restart the machine via the remote app.

Really hope this isn't a hardware problem as I'm really liking the 13" machine otherwise and would love to keep it.

I literally had a MacBook Pro in my on-line shopping cart to be sent to the nearest Apple Store but I've elected to hold off until this gets sorted.  No sense in buying into a headache!

Is anyone using a mixed BlueTooth envorinment? That is, an Apple device and another brand?
We have a user that used an Apple Mouse but another brand keyboard and that was the issue.  When we changed over to Apple/Apple it went away.
    Something to look for...

I actually got the same problem with my 13" rMBP late 2013.
I wasn't able to use the Keyboard / TP. Restart solved my problem temporarily.

Hope that Apple will fix that issue in an upcoming Bugfix-Update, asap.

Same problem here: late-2013 rMBP 2.4GHz with 8GB ram and 256GB HD, 3 freezes in 4 days; keyboard, trackpad unresponsive except for power button; hard shutdown and restart restores normal operation; tried plugging in USB mouse and keyboard after freeze but there was no response to them either. It has happened in a different application each time, and all 3 times with nothing connected to the laptop except the magsafe. Otherwise the laptop is awesome, so I eagerly await a fix from Apple.
